Working From Home

Anyone else finding it a bit of a stretch now? I was always travelling with work, but since March I'm exclusively working on the laptop / calls at home and its been a real culture shock.

I've turned one of the spare rooms into an office so at least I have a separate space, but safe to say I'm climbing the walls now!

Any WFH survival tips (or distractions ) welcome!

I'm just enjoying it as much as I can, I only get two days at home but they are heaven! We most likely won't get this chance again so I'm making the most of no travelling, no distractions and no 'annoying' (you know the ones) colleagues

Love the money it's saving me on public transport, but I do miss the social aspect of being in the office and even being outside for a bit.

I never thought I could get in the headspace to work from home but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. However, I say this as I'm meant to be working but on here instead

Yes, it can be annoying especially if I have to do something and want advice from a more experienced colleague. Sending a message over ‘teams’ is more of a pain, than shouting over to them in the office to have a look at an account for me.

But I do enjoy the lack of commuting and literally one minute after signing out of my computer I’m in bed (I work 6pm - 2am). So the extra time I have each day is useful.

I’d love a mixture going forward as it’s proved to be successful in our area of work.

Yeah needing advice from colleagues is proving to be more challenging... its the casual chats over a coffee or a walk round the office that I'm really missing... they were invaluable. Life on Teams feels much more formal and every second needs to be productive & accounted for.

Weirdly I also miss driving around from place to place - sometimes I used to have a couple of hours between locations (!) but that was great for personal headspace or personal catch up calls with the team.

I’m climbing the walls a little bit. Partners working away so it’s just hit me a little bit how lonely it can be. We live in the middle of nowhere too. Beautiful but desolate in the winter.

Fab is a distraction.

I'm wfh and really fed up of people not doing as I ask. It's much easier being in work so I can glare at them.

I have adapted really well to working from home, and I could happily stay this way moving forward. I now have a much better work/life balance.

I don't spend absolutely ages (nearly 2 hrs!) every morning getting ready for work. I don't nip to a shop to buy lunch, I don't buy costa every day, and my commute is across the landing into the spare bedroom/office. I am no longer walking to various meeting rooms and have so much more time at my desk to get actions done that much quicker from meetings.

As a result I am much more productive with my work, my team have instant access to me as they can see when I am in/off meeting calls. They can instant message me when I am in meetings etc.

I too have more contact with my own manager than before, which has its benefits and disbenefits

I have saved money as a result of WFH.

I get to spend more time around my family. When my youngest is able to attend school it's been wonderful to be at home when he comes home from school, this is something I have never been able to experience with either of my kids... and I am loving it. On the other hand home schooling has its difficulties for me as I am less able to give my child my full attention as I am often in meetings or when free to spend time helping him we are interrupted by people contacting me.

Also, as a keen runner I have been able to spend more time outside. As I can have a run before work or during my lunch break.

I do miss the social interactions with people, I miss seeing people, I miss those chats in the kitchen, I miss the team banter, I miss wearing stilettos every day and looking smart... I can still do this but I choose not to unless I am going food shopping.... thats now my reason to dress nicely

Her x

I fucking love it. Don't miss my colleagues at all. No desire to go back to the office ever.

Can’t do my job remotely so I’m stuck at work but as most of the staff are furloughed or wfh it’s really quite lonely

the getting dressed one is interesting... I've really tried to maintain a routine of getting up early, shower, work clothes on etc.... keeps me more productive and I can get changed at the end of the working day so its another break from that part of the house / monotony! Its psychological more than anything I'm sure (& I'm lucky that my work clothes are mainly smart jeans and top / shirt )

Try not working

I'm not dismissing your situation OP, but (save for 8 weeks or so) I've been going stir crazy at home since last March

I know I am fortunate to still have an employer and employment

Many haven't been that lucky

However, bat shit stir crazy is definitely order of the day

Mind you, being bat shit helps you adjust to the forums
