So I was curious as to why certain music always gives me goosebumps, mostly all over, no joke. I googled it yesterday and found the following - please feel free to do your own research, there are several sources/ studies in this subject area.

"About 50 percent of people get chills when listening to music. Research shows that's because music stimulates an ancient reward pathway in the brain, encouraging dopamine to flood the striatum—a part of the forebrain activated by addiction, reward, and motivation"

Which music has this effect on you and are you amongst the 50% who experience this and emotions in general at a deeper level?

There are several songs that have this effect on me, or make hairs stand on end. Is that the same thing? Mostly are because I think they trigger certain memories.

Apparently so, and it seems our brains are wired a bit differently, which makes us deeply connect to our emotions.

Certain songs can for sure and are usually associated with memories of the time of hearing that song played, or an association with a particular person/event.

A good example is One Step Beyond by Madness - but only the live version from their Madstock gig in Finsbury Park in 1992 - was there that day and the atmosphere was positively electric as it was their first gig in 6 years and One Step Beyond was the first song played - even thinking about that moment brings me out in goosebumps

For me music can re-inforce my mood but also change it completely. Either way, whatever way I guess our responses show we are human and as such consist of a variety of emotions.

I am curious what other things people experience, apart from goosebumps and being moved to tears. What other responses do you experience?

Lots of music gives me goosebumps, it's almost euphoric. Aretha Fanklin and Joe Cocker especially.

Yes but it’s hard to work out what does it, for example Bizet’s the pear fishers does it, maria from west side story and crazy town’s butterfly

I can relate to Pearl Fishers. I also love some of Pavarotti's stuff. ANd one of the themes sung at Harry & Meghan's wedding - Eternal source of light divine.

Would agree, some will be a link to a memory and some just simply because of the sheer beauty which will literally make you stop what your doing and lose yourself in that moment..

Just listening to that and it is haunting as well.

This reminds me of the originally Simon & Garfunkel "Sounds of Silence" version sung by Disturbed which is amazing.

I can relate to Pearl Fishers. I also love some of Pavarotti's stuff. ANd one of the themes sung at Harry & Meghan's wedding - Eternal source of light divine."

I suspect it’s much more to do with particular patterns of tone/notes - some music happens to hit that , it does change over time though at least with me

Just listening to that and it is haunting as well.

Bizarrely, the first few chords in the introduction to Lion King has a similar effect on me - as has the Ladysmith Black Mambazo song "Inkanyezi Nezazi" (better known as the Baked Beans ad from some years back always give me goosebumps.

Maybe it has something to do with simple and primal responses in our brains, not sure. I think it is a fascinating topic of research though.

I get music goosebumps ALOT.

Various different music, if its good, I get them. So much so it annoys me sometimes.

I get them on my arms and legs often, if it is really really good, then my cheek hairs (peach fuzz) go aswell

I can't think of any particular piece of music off the top of my head but yes, I get music goosebumps a fair bit. Usually if it's nostalgia driven or just an epic piece - I think Hans Zimmer and the LOTR theme has done it a few times
