Laziness guilt

I'm sat on my sofa with a coffee, posting on here and chatting, but I have so many other things I should be doing, housework, paperwork, etc etc.

I always and up feeling guilty for sitting even though in my head I know I work 6 days a week so I should be able to sit and relax a little.

Do you feel guilty over sitting relaxing?

Oh my god so much. I have to keep saying to myself; "rest is productive too". Instead I keep saying to myself; "you still haven't done x and y and z"

Always struggled with the difference between relaxing and wasted time. Can't say I've found the solution but it's getting easier.

Yes! All the time. Although my friends like to remind me that relaxing is good for me and is just as productive (especially if I'm falling asleep standing up) I know it's hard but try not to feel guilty lovely, self care is important too

I try not to move around the house much before 11 as my sons are sleeping and I don’t need to rush anywhere as there is nowhere to go

I’m actually quite enjoying it but will be glad to go back to rushing around when I have places to go

I used to be like this but I discovered the concept of not giving a fuck. There's dishes in the sink and housework that needs doing but I'll do it when I can be bothered. I work hard all week so I appreciate my down time so much more now!

No

If I don't relax then my body will crash and burn. I can't push it at 100 miles a hour in the week if I don't balance it out at the weekends

Yeah, but you have to be kind to yourself and give yourself a break to recharge, so you shouldn’t feel guilty especially at the moment.

I used to. When I first retired I had in the back of my mind constantly that I should be doing something "productive". I'd say it took me about 5 years to be comfortable and realise that it's ok to do things like read, sew, garden, listen to the radio or just nothing.

I had a conversation with a woman one day and heard myself saying that I'd had decades of getting up,going to work, coming home, loading the washing machine, putting dinner on, sorting school uniform etc etc etc and it reinforced in my mind that actually, yes, it is ok to relax and do something just for yourself.

Enjoy it!

I’m the same. I’m not very good at relaxing. I’m actually thinking of going in the office and working as it’s quiet here. I really shouldn’t though.

Oh and stop calling it laziness. You work 6 days a week for goodness sake!

I have nothing else to do. An expanse of time. It feels a waste.

Enjoy the busy.

Yes, always.

I have to remind myself that it's healthy to just be.

I think it's more acute when you're working from home too. Even before all this I used to work from home often and I find that with work, uni and personal life all happening in the same surroundings I always have guilt that there's something else I could be doing, but you'd just go insane giving into that all the time. Down time is important too.

Just say fuck it...there’s always more to be done...give yourself permission not to feel guilty

No guilt at all - you have to have downtime to yourself. Life is about balance, so if you're feeling guilty, you probably have a skewed work/life balance.

It's all about approach - training your brain to understand that downtime is me-time and that that's OK.

I tend not to do much in the way of things like housework at the weekends - a simple, but effective way to keep your time to yourself.
