Do you look at it while sitting on the loo, or even when taking a shower? If so you may have Nomophobia (fear of being without your phone).

Could you go a day quite happily without it?

I can do a day without it as only tend to look at it for longer than a few minutes at a time when I’m horny and no one is around to help me out

I wouldn't be without it at the moment although I do have times where I ignored it, it's currently my only link to friends, family and being able to have a conversation with an adult.

I think the situation at the moment is very different, and sometimes it’s the only contact you can have with other people.

Lockdown would have gone very badly for me if I hadn’t been able to talk to people on my phone.

We watched a great program called. The social dilemma. Which was as disturbing as it was fascinating. Including loads of ex programmers from various companies like google, facebook, twitter. Discussing the fact that none of then ever imagined how their, programs, like buttons, algorithms would be used in a deliberate way to consciously make people addicted to their phones. All of this driven by multi story AI programs. Some people even being prepared to use violence to protect a shitty little box.

Firstly, yes. I am as guilty as anyone else. Although I dont use things like facebook or Twitter.

Was it a conspiracy theory program? Nope. Was it made to make us take a long hard look at the insanity of worshipping a box made to ring your mum? Absolutely.

The issue is that so much is linked via phone, banking, shopping, work, entertainment.... that it's difficult to say I could go a day without it but only in the practical sense, if I left home without it I'd not feel I had to rush back to get it and can happily ignore it when it suits me.

It’s also so useful, I can go anywhere without a bag now, I just need my phone, it’s got my banking, loyalty cards etc. The only other thing I need is my mask and I’m good to go

We're pretty good at going without our phones for a while. Our kids are a different story - they rarely look up from the screens and can't understand why we ask them to take a break.

I wouldn't say say so. I spend around 3 hours a day on it which isn't too bad but I would like to cut down. I mostly just use it when I've got nothing to do or when the child is occupied or if my notifications go and I need to reply to a message. I'm not too worried about my usage.

I have a massive paranoia that something bad will happen and people won't have been able to get a hold of me if I haven't checked it in a while. Then when I pick it up I end up in every app just in case I'm missing anything . I very rarely am!

I think we all are to varying degrees. Your time and in fact, your thoughts are the commodity nowadays so keeping you transfixed to the screen is key.

Personally I removed all social media from my phone and it makes a big difference to how much time you stare at your phone. Highly recommended.

shits creek

I'm one of these fuckers who struggles to ignore it if I hear a ping.

Even when I'm in the shower I tend to check the alert.

I blame the mother. "Need to be able to get hold of ya, in case there's an emergency"

I was in the shower last night and it kept pinging. I may have shouted at it to leave me the fuck alone.

I just know what I'm like, and if there WAS an emergency and I'd ignored it, would I fuck be able to forgive myself.

Every now and then though, I will switch all notifications off and tell my son and besties I need some quiet time, so if there is an emergency to ring it.

These are all legit, recognised conditions. If you suffer from any of these, you've been had, hooked, sucked in and suckered by the evil ones!
