You mean the front part of our brain that controls emotions and trying to control it, by seeing it as the ‘chimp’ and separating it from ourselves, I haven’t read the book, if it’s the one I’m thinking of it’s used in sports Psychology a lot ?!

I just found a summary online :

"Do you sabotage your own happiness and success? Are you struggling to make sense of yourself? Do your emotions sometimes dictate your life? The Chimp Paradox is an incredibly powerful mind management model that can help you become a happy, confident, healthier and more successful person."

It is written in an easy to understand, fascinating and interesting way, suitable for anybody who is interested in the topic of how our mind works and how we can control our primal responses a bit better by understanding where they come from.

Steve Peters is the author - highly recommended especially during lockdown. I bought one and ended up giving it to a friend, so I bought another one.

.

I was bought it by one of my team for my last birthday. Slightly offended in all honesty but I do get why. It's actually quite good if you're a particular way - it's a way of processing how you're feeling and addressing it by giving it a real form. I try and remember to use it when I'm a bit Aspie-ing but it doesn't always work that well (my fault, not the book's).

We all have that inner chimp, it's all about not letting him/her taking over ...

The chimp paradox,it is Steven Peters brilliant but heavy reading at times, I heard about it through a Guy Martin book I was reading and it helped to calm him down and understand his inner chimp that was trying to kill him and made him have a very short fuse so I thought I would get it. I learned a lot from it about myself and about the actions of others so overall I think everyone could benefit from understanding their inner chimp

I'm sure it mentions in the book somewhere we are not meant to be monogamous as far as our chimp is concerned, that's a part of my chimp I can acttually agree with and not interested in controlling

I think the chimp book is really good, I like the concepts and they are used in a lot of training and consulting (the big U.K. airline use it on all their flight crews for instance and some elite sports teams).

Like all these things, it’s good to have a view of many to get a feel for what works for you / your environment.

Have you started it yet?

Worth a read..but the mindset to want to change would be a pre-requisite as with most things.
