Many people may not remember this guy, but he fronted News at 10 until he retired in 1991, a job he'd done for 24 years.

His death at the age of 84 was announced today. Full details are available on the usual news channels including the BBC.

Sir Alistair, along with other names such as Reginald Bosenquet, always bring back memories if watching News at Ten with my Dad.

Sooner watch any of his generation than some of the 'amateur newsreaders' we have today....... Susannah Reid excepted, of course.... (hubba hubba!!)

I didnt realize it was that long since he retired and i certainly didnt realize he was in his 80's. I guess you forget how quick time flies sometimes
