I seem to (especially under anxiety, stress etc) of having recurring bad dreams of an ex gf who turned out to be a right bastard and caused me misery and trouble by the truck load, and never dreamt of others, especially one who was lovely. Anyone had this same experience of nightmares of ex's?

Maybe the stress and anxiety of current situation (Covid etc) is sort of nudging the stress and anxiety of the feelings you had with your ex and bringing it back?

Maybe look online for some tips to help deal with anxiety and relaxation techniques to call on when you need them.

I think its linked to current anxiety, stress from the virus that triggers similar feelings from the past, and drags up past causes

Sounds like it affected you so bad that sub consciously it's still there as you haven't really recovered or dealt with it, it sounds easy to just 'put things to the back of the mind' but these feelings can always return...as your finding, maybe try going to see some one..counselling?

I have it too.

Stress build up.

Uncertainty.

Sometimes if I can't work things out and am confused by stuff it'll be my ex that pops up in my dream as the source of confusion even though he's not related to the issue on my mind at the time.

Amazing how much kerfuffle it can cause and residual emotional turmoil left behind.

In times of stress and when I feel I need to question my own reactions to things I have to look back and wonder how much more damage I've yet to find that one particular ex did to me over a number of years.

It has lessened massively thankfully but every now and again something I do crops up and I can see there is still work to do on myself....its a long road amd often hard to travel with losses along the way.

I've been trying to work out if it's simply a familiarity link.

That my regular source of those feelings was him, so when those feelings are surfacing again even if it's because of something else, my brains "go to" place is him.

Stockholm syndrome or a similarity to it both for the good and the bad side of it all.

Bad people can have such a profound effect on your phsyce that their effects can alter your whole being and personality.
