FabSwingers.com forum: In a little bit of confusion

Me and one of my best friends of many years have always came to the understanding that we dont sleep with someone they like. One night I left my best friend and a girl I really like alone in my house for a few hours, left with no worries what so ever.

A few hours later, I came back home but my door was locked. Not thinking anything about it so I knocked on. (My sofa is literally a foot away from the front door) but what seemed such a long time to open and let me in.

As soon as I walk in I sense an atmosphere, like I interrupted or something. Didnt say anything at first. But I noticed that they couldn't even look at each other. Which was very weird. I didnt wanna ruin the night so i stayed quiet.

So a few days later it was playing on my mind so I decided to ask them. They both denied anything had happened.

Im a strong believer in going with your gut instinct. My gut instinct is saying something happened.

Im really confused at this moment in time. But can gut instinct be wrong?

So sorry for the huge text, had to write down the scenario for people to try and get a perspective

The thing is though - did your friend know you liked the lady? Did the lady know you liked her? Did she even know about the "rule" you and your friend have? Or even have any choice in it if she did? What happens if both you and your friend like the same person?

Not saying your "rule" with your friend is wrong as such, but at the same time if you weren't in a relationship with the lady concerned then neither of them have really done anything wrong IF anything happened anyway. She certainly hasn't, and whilst, arguably, your friend has broken a code you have between you is it really that big a deal considering you weren't together with this lady?

Whilst I understand the logic behind rules with mates, I also think they make huge assumptions about the other person involved (i.e. the lady) and their level of interest in you rather than your friend.

I get that it stings when something like this happens (or doesn't as you don't *know* anything did) but think you just have to accept it, or risk losing both your friendship and any potential chance of getting together with the lady concerned.

Don't make rules with another man about who a woman or any woman come to that is allowed to have sex with. There would be no confusion then because your friend would have been able to be honest.

It's all a bit territorial.

It’s a bit shitty to do it in your home, especially if they knew how you felt about the lady. But technically, if they’re both single and you hadn’t made your move they’re free to do whatever and whoever they like. It’s not very ‘bro-code’ of your friend but maybe he has feelings for her too.
