I want to break 100kg on my bench and get that damned 130kg deadlift I missed last year (was so bloody close!)

I'm starting off the year with a 50 miles in January challenge to get me back running. I've really missed parkrun last year

Honestly with the way things are at the moment I'm just hoping not to lose too much strength with the gyms closing and reopening every few months.

My goals are get weight down, get fitness levels up, tone up, and get my blood sugar in order.

I’m very much a work in progress and in the past few years have lost weight and got my BMI into the green zone. But now, naked, I look like someone who is wearing a badly cut, baggy suit, and I really hate how I look. So a busy year ahead.

I'm in a similar boat. Need to tone up and eat a lot healthier. Good luck with yours and everyone else's goals too.

From Monday I’ll be starting a realistic diet and exercise plan - hoping to return to a size 12 by late spring.

If I can’t do this after making a consistent effort - I’ll focus on staying fit, eating healthily - and learning to accept the curvier me!

A sub 20 minute 5km run was 2020’s goal.

But after suffering from long COVID and being a year older, a 20.5 minute run matching my PB would be good.

Getting back in shape would be nice too if we can ever go back to the gym

I am starting January by participating in a virtual event (Spine Challenge) achieving 286 miles during January. Got my first run done this morning and will be back out later for a power walk.

I hope to avoid illness and injury and use this month to kick start my marathon training.

Good luck to everyone on their own fitness journeys

Most people don't love it though - it's all about the way we look.

Even at 45 I'm sucked in to thinking I need to look a certain way.

You're spot on Mary. I know I feel better when I'm doing 5ks so that's why I'm doing it. My life isn't going to get magically better because I've reached some arbitrary dress size and I'd much rather love how I am and enjoy what life has to offer instead of beating myself up if I don't. "The last minute is tough. I was 17 secs of a sub 20 and I can’t break that barrier. Getting older too"

May I suggest a change in your exercise regime. There is an adage in running, 'if you want to run faster you have to run faster'. It's a simple principle of track efforts and short, sharp sprints. Not easy to execute sadly, otherwise we'd all be Kipchoge.

Good luck with your goal. I got beaten three weeks ago by a 54 year old guy who ran a 15.45 min 5k. You have this...

Goals? To have more sex; that's my favourite form of exercise.

Seriously, I'm comfortable in my skin. I walk a lot and wild swim (yes, even this week) but have no desire to aim for a "new me".

This me is ok, actually.

"The last minute is tough. I was 17 secs of a sub 20 and I can’t break that barrier. Getting older too

That's so true same for jumping sports or punching

Many still think hold weights and then jump of hold heavy weight and punch

The irony is this actually slows the speed of contraction and the movement groove

Un weight then aim for fastest movement

What temperature are we talking with the wild swims ? A pal of mine does them locally and invited me but i was hesitant cause I know how cold the local water here gets

The lake I swim in was 3.5 yesterday. I'm hoping it'll be higher ( by 1°?) tomorrow afternoon as the ice has now melted. It's the air temperature that's crucial.. getting dried and dressed in minus temps is grim.

I have been sedentary for a long time, so looking to start off slow with walking until I build fitness back up and then move to weights etc.

My goal is to lose 2 stone before the mls but tone up at the same time.

Wirral

Last year my goal was to run a 5k - on this day last year I couldn't even run a bath. I am now up to 7k (I ran one this morning) and so my next challenge is gonna be reach 10k. Hope to get there by around early April.

To undo the ‘damage’ done but not going to the gym for 10months and leading a fairly sedentary life whilst on furlough

Continue to lose weight. Especially after what I have eaten and drank over Christmas.

I have just bought dumbbells and a bench to train at home. Maybe some naked training will be in order in 2021!

Just to check progress of course

Away with the faeries

I would like to tone, strengthen and get my stamina up to an acceptable level.

There are specific things I would like to do in 2021.
