Legal Action?

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

This is a genuine question!

Those people that put the "Sydney University / Facebook" type warning on their profiles, sometimes add that they will take legal action if people use their photos, etc.

I'm just wondering what legal action they think they will take and how they see that playing out. I can just see somebody standing up in the Civil Court with copies of all their intimate pictures and showing them to the jury as they say, "We took this one at a gangbang. It was copied three times by Sydney University."

I'm genuinely keen to hear from anyone who has such a warning on their profile, and what they think their legal action would entail.

I currently have my location as The 7th Realm.

I used to have my location as Sydney University, but it freaked people out and I got messages asking if it was true

There and to the left a bit

Just as it is on Facebook it's a pointless thing that has little or no standing - here's what the site FAQs say about it:

We've noticed a legal disclaimer paragraph that some people have on their profiles. Should we have one too? What are they about? Do they do any good?

The "legal disclaimer" is pointless nonsense and all does is take up extra space on our servers. Please remove it if you have it on your profile. If you're worried about privacy please set your account to be hidden from non-registered users on your privacy page (this also hides it from search engines but may take a week or two to drop out of search) and remove the notice (and encourage others to do likewise).

Common sense advice would be NOT to put any information on your profile (here, or on any such site) that could identify you or that you don't want to become public! So for your own benefit, don't post phone numbers, real names or email / instant message addresses on your profile that people might see or "Google".

Some people may put non-identifying pics on their public profile but keep face pics private or for friends, for example.

It’s like the ones (evidently copied and pasted) that start like this...

‘Fabswingers is now a publicly traded entity...’

I’m pretty sure it isn’t. But in the event that I’m wrong, where do I buy my shares then?

I don't think the warning has any merit either, but perhaps if we drop the insults we will get somebody who uses the warnings to engage in the debate?

Ta,

Don't see why people place it on there profiles, most are downloaded by bots and don't even click the profile by human so no chance of anyone reading it.

And in terms of court I very much doubt anyone would pay for legal action if found there pics

Wonder why specifically Sydney university? Anyone could invade their virtual privacy!

I must apply for a prospectus from S U. Their courses must be much more interesting than accounting.
