Well the fact is this - I have a friend or should that be ex-friend, who i have just found out shares a hotel room with his Mum when he goes on holiday!

It's not exactly illegal but then again it is a bit odd!

The fact that he is 41 and his Mum is a widow who is 76.

I think it makes sense in an economical way

I don't think that id last that long having to share a room with my mum though,id have to sleep with my eyes open and I think it would end up in a competition over who could throw the other off the balcony first

Why is it odd? I think it's nice he takes his widowed mum on holiday, my oh does the same. Shows he's a caring and practical person. Money they save on single room supplements he can treat his old mum.

Bravo to him! His Mum may well not be confident enough to travel on her own and, as someone pointed out earlier, 2 single supplements can add up. The fact they are close enough to do this and not worry is to be applauded, not criticised imho.

Cant see the issue, going on holiday as a single is expensive. I suppose the issue comes when one of them 'pulls'. Maybe they can do like The Inbetweeners and hang a hat on the door knob if they are 'entertaining'.

And before you say it, I know she is in her 70's, but even septugenarians get horny!

I had to share a room on holiday with my dad when he was taken ill abroad years ago...he was 68 at the time.

Insurance flew me out but wouldn't pay for separate accommodation.

To be honest, I was glad as my dad was poorly when he was discharged and I was glad to be close to him to keep an eye out.

why exactly is it odd ??? really cant see any issues with it . makes sense not only economically but maybe logistically aswell(if mother needs some care ).my father is 75 and still very much there mentally and physically ,some people wont be as fortunate and my just need help .

people go away with groups of frinds and share rooms all the time no one bats an eye lid at that why would sharing with youre own mother be odd? i think its lovely hes spending quality time with her while he has oppertuinty .

I took my sons to New York at separate times and shared the hotel room with them. Rooms are expensive, I wouldn't want to have a single room anyway and their are two double beds. I don't see anything wrong with mother and son sharing a room

I do understand why 99% of the posts say they think it's sweet/ kind that he's looking after his mum.

I would think it less odd that a daughter would be sharing with her mum or a son sharing with his dad.

Just my opinion. I wouldn't necessarily think it was incestuous.... just odd.

My oh lives close to his mum. He and his daughters visit regularly. His brother and his family seldom visit. He's national director for his company, has a good circle of friends,

Each year he goes on holiday with his daughters and son-in-laws and takes his mum away, just the two of them. He attends all her hospital appointments with when he can, visited her every night she was in hospital recently and takes her shopping and for lunch every weekend.

I was not close to my parents, and selfishly I think he could spend more time with me, but I realise some people are blessed with parents they love deeply and want to spend time with. My ex husband is the same, he's moved in to his mums one bed flat to take care of her and has put his four bed house on the market.

I think it sad that it's seen as loneliness, not love and "gratitude" when an adult child takes a parent on holiday.

I hope my kids will do the same for me.

Just back from a camping wknd at Donington with my dad......is that odd....not in my eyes....it was a fathers day gift wknd at Le Mans....i threw in camping as dad.never tried it.....ive been away with my mum n dad ...and eiv just my daughter....isnt that what families do????

Nothing wrong with it in the slightest.

My mum has limited mobility and I take her out clothes shopping at least once a month.

Dad doesn't like it and finds it hard to push her round in her chair.

I have also just returned from a weekend away in a cottage with them and am hoping to get away with them again later on in the year.

I have holidays of my own and with friends too.

So many people get so wrapped up in their own lives that their parents become almost incidental to their lives.

I find that exceptionally sad.

As far as I'm concerned, they did their best to ensure that I was afforded the best start in life and I think it is the least I can do to make their later years are as good as they can be.

If other people choose to think that that behaviour is 'odd' then it says more about their _iews on life than it says about mine.

Nothing wrong with sharing a room with family members (male or female). I will be going on holiday with my mum in September and we have a twin room.

I have also shared a bed at different times with my mum, sister and niece. I wouldn't do this with male relatives though.

I have shared my bed with a few females friends too (absolutely nothing in it).

It's never crossed my mind that there is anything wrong with it.

Ok - The reason i find it odd is that they share a room when they could be in single rooms in the same hotel - I know people have talked about saving money, ok fair enough but they could find a better deal or cheaper hotel and have the single rooms. That is my thinking. I have been on the odd holiday with my Mum and we have always had seperate rooms. I can know here everyone saying that it is a preference - so there you have it!

not all hotels have single rooms and single room supps can be prohibitive fiancially.

( how do you know what their sleeping arrangements are anyway. is it a double room twin room suite ?) single rooms are the pits usually overlooking the dustbins perhaps they wanted a _iew or a balcony ..
