What's your stance on them?

My sister and I always disagree on this. I love getting some nice kitchenware, candles, soft furnishings, appliances etc. She thinks presents should always go on your body so smelly things, clothes, jewellery etc.

I think it might make a difference because I'm single, so house gifts are still me gifts whereas she wants something unrelated to shared space/chores. Do you mind getting either?

That's what I think too. I'm obsessed with nice glasses but I don't like to splurge on them so those have been some of my best gifts. My sis loves mine then warns me never to buy her anything like that! I'll keep them for years though, whereas a nice bubble bath will be gone by new year.

I've got a dualit toaster, the cheap ones are often better too but I adore its style and that its effort to use it. It just appeals to me a lot.

It does make great toast!

I love them! I got a set of circulon pans this year as part of my Christmas present. And it includes a skillet which is heaven. I like the upgrade with things I use daily that I wouldn't normally splash out on, like my Le Creuset collection is building up nicely and this is by far the wankiest thing I've typed in some time.

I am all about the prettiness of kitchen appliances, I can even deal with them not working the best so long as they're gorgeous

My kettle has lost the switch so you kinda have to fiddle with a bit of plastic to get it to work, the handle of the toaster flies off every time the toast pops, and my microwave trim is held on with sticky pads.

I can't justify the spend coz they still work

I much prefer a gift of something I need, rather than something someone things I’d like, it’s normally a practical item, set of scales, electric can opener (after I damaged my wrist), slow cooker to name a few

I prefer practical presents. I got a hand blender for Christmas, which will get a lot of use.

My ex gf is a farmer and she hated frivolous presents. An ornament would end up in the back of cupboard. She liked practical, but thoughtful, presents. She told me the best present I ever bought her was a set of ratchet straps, as she used to use bits of old rope for lashing bales of hay to her trailer. As far as I know, she still uses them.
