couple, us we him her.

Ordinarily I start a "who hates Christmas thread " usually about two weeks out from the day.

However with the year we have all had and the really crap past two months myself and the family have been through I thought I'd get in the spirit.

But who else like me suddenly feels totally deflated and really struggling to get excited?

Can't see family or friends.

Other than chillaxing what else is there to do?

Normally, would be at home in Turkey where we dont have to do christmas, so not seeing family anyway. Royally pissed off we are trapped in the shit show that is covid Britain with christmas shoved down our necks. So seems a shame I cant see my family.

On the plus side, we are together, so chilling, films and food and lots of debauchery.

Firstly, it's just my opinion.

Secondly, yes they do, but manage it a lot better, without the half arsed measures we have, dont have, have again, oh, now we dont.

Thirdly, by pretty much every store, tv channel. So on and so forth.

Again. My viewpoint. Not looking for arguement, it wasnt directed at you. Or anyone else personally.

So why try to make it one.

I'm missing one of my kids this year and the one I get excited about the most is having them all on Christmas day so that did kill my excitement fairly well.

I still have the rest and it's still Christmas but it's not the same and feels a bit weird. It's the first one with one missing.

Haven’t celebrated Christmas for years , over rated , over expensive & too much bragging , it’s ok if people have little ones . We see family all year round not just at Christmas, we buy gifts for each other all year round not just Christmas. So what’s all the fuss , let’s be thankful for what we have when other’s having nothing . We really don’t realise what we’ve got . Try going to counties who really have nothing but their faith & wish at time they have what we have . Just my / our opinion . Have a lovely Christmas holiday everyone ( love)

I don't feel deflated.

I'm seldom excited about Christmas.

This year I am content that I haven't died and that none of my family have died.

They all have a roof and enough to eat.

Their is fresh air out there and clean water in the tap.

I'll give them a virtual cuddle until the new lockdown is over

There is so much to be glad about.

It's a bit weird and yes we can't see the kids or the grandchildren apart from Skype but we are safe, will be well fed and watered with s roof over our heads..

Just us on Christmas day and boxing day. I've just spoken to my mum who can't seem to accept that nobody cares if they don't have presents.

I think we all thought we were going to have a very different Christmas than the one we're going to have so even with all the resolve in the world we're going to feel a bit meh now and again. I think that's ok, we're human beings and relentless positivity is as draining as constant negativity.

Enjoy the bits you can and that's good enough I say

I have hated Xmas for years and the last 3 to 4 have been miserable and I've cried the whole way through. It is such a lonely time, I'm working this Xmas again and I don't mind.

I keep reminding myself its one day, that all the "Happy beautiful families" posting on social media are just the Happy highlights and it means shit lol

But after the year thats in it I have realised how lucky I am, I have my parents, my son, my health, a roof over my house, a job I love and finally feeling a bit financially secure. So this year I probably will have a wee cry but I'm going to enjoy it with the people I love

Hugs to everyone over the next few days and hers hoping that 2021 will be filled with laughter, dancing, good times and making memories with old friends and new ones with new friends

And eh the odd ride thrown in for good measure

I haven’t been excited by Christmas since my lads stopped believing in Santa

still its given me two weeks off from work, I have a nice bit of food in the fridge, a few bottles of plonk on ice (outside the door in the cold air to be precise), one son in Canada with his wife and one son who is home with his wife, nothing really else matters right now

This is my first Christmas eve not spent in an airport lounge, on a plane or on a train so I'm happy

Christmas is a weird one for me, my grandad died early Christmas morning when I was 10. So for me it's always bitter sweet. If it's about seeing family I much prefer our family BBQs, our long walks or days at the beach.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Ours was always going to be different this year as my sister is working in a supermarket until closing time today and Dad left for a warm winter elsewhere at the end of Lockdown 2.

We're getting a take-away for dinner (I've cleaned the kitchen and don't want to mess it up

). We'll have a drink and then take it easy for the next couple of days.

It might not be exciting but we have all we need and most of what we want.

This is how I feel.

I had a moment earlier and another one just now where I've cried. It wasn't sad tears tho, I looked around at my friends and thinking back in March when this shit storm reality kicked in I arrived here not knowing if we were all gonna make it to Christmas. We were expecting to lose people we loved and maybe even each other.

Here I am, with friends I class as family, who treat me like I'm precious but at the same time will kick me in the cunt and give me hard truths. I'm blessed. I'm beyond thankful we're all still here and that, when the time is right I will hug my boy again.

I actually feel like a weight is lifted from my shoulders and I think it will, bizarrely, be one of my best xmasses... I've even nipped to the shop to buy myself some fizz and a very nice amarone...So I'll be completely sloshed by 10am! Winner winner

Christmas can be difficult and lonely time for some people. Perhaps this year, more of us will get to see it through their eyes.

To be honest, this Christmas and not being able to see extended family has actually made me appreciate them a lot more. I also think about the families who have lost loved ones this year and would love to be having any sort if Christmas with them. I think I'll be a bit less curmudgeonly next Christmas and enjoy my extended family more. Its easy not to appreciate how lucky you are sometimes.

So Im going to make the most of this Christmas ......

and have a beer now. Cheers everyone

Yup.

Not literally of course, but from September onwards there is Christmas shit everywhere, shops, online, TV ads if you choose to watch telly. You cannot hide from it. And as two people who fuckimg hate it, it does feel like it's rammed down our necks.

That's why we usually fuck off to Turkey and ignore it.

Covid means we can't this year. So we're having a moan about how it's all up in our faces here and we hate it.

Take commercialism out of Christmas and what are you left with?

Family and friends. For one day only and limited on the family and friends.

The only reason I like Christmas is for the time off I give myself. But then I have been lucky enough to continue working throughout the year. For me Christmas is one day only. Quite happily pack it all away on boxing Day.

Our parents are gone so the kids though young haven’t had grandparents for three years now. Our own brothers/sisters & their families are dotted about the world the nearest is 300 miles away but she is away anyway spending Xmas in Dubai.

So for the second year we will see no one at all over the whole holiday period.

Our holiday will be filled with toys, walks, TV, Food & Drink.

So not really any different though probably more walks in the hills & less TV
