Often. Oddly, I sometimes even feel lonely when I'm surrounded by people.

It's pretty bad for many of us at the moment, but this time will pass, things will get better.

Stay strong, and keep chatting.

I think all the bs around Christmas makes people feel lonely. I know it does me but really, I'm way happier on my own most of the time. I do as I please when I please. There's no expectations on me and I don't have to wash someone else's undercrackers lol.

Would be lovely to have an occasional lover for sure but not end of the world stuff if I don't.

Covid n Christmas make me more conscious of being alone, no one checking in on how I am and no Christmas surprises but other than that, I'm okay with being a lone wolf... Wouldn't mind someone to howl at the moon with when the urge strikes tho lol

"Yes. Loneliness doesn’t always go hand-in-hand with being on your own."

The last Christmas I spent with my ex-husband was the only time I can recall feeling lonely. If someone had looked through my dining room window they'd have seen the perfect Christmas tableau: mummy, daddy, three beautifully dressed kids, table heaving with Christmas fare.

We were just going through the motions for the kids: never felt so alone in my life!

This makes me sad.

This year we lost a close friend through suicide. Newly married, 2 beautiful kids, played rugby, fought on our kickboxing team, so happy and full of life. At the hospital with the surrounded by people it was impossible to contemplate how he could have felt so alone.

It only takes 30 seconds to ask somebody how they are, and it literally could save a life.

Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas x

I find that I have bouts of being lonely and wishing I had someone to spend time with to cherish. I try and plan to do one thing for me in a day. It doesn't matter if it is just going for a walk and listening to a album from yesteryear or even just making a cuppa with a few biscuits and watching a fav episode or clip to make me laugh.

Try small things that make you smile..

"I will be having pasta for one on Christmas Day, it’s Cannelloni."

hahaha

I was reading this thread with empathy. I have spent the last six Christmasses on my own and not through choice. I like to be on my own but at this time of year I do feel lonely.

This year I don’t even have any cards or presents to open.

If you know someone who is alone, just reach out and say hi, they’ll be more grateful than you know. Humour definitely helps - especially like that terrible but brilliant joke above!!

To those on their own this Christmas - solidarity. Come say hi if you fancy a chat with no expectations of anything other than virtual company xx

Summed up perfectly.

I came on here to post a similar thread of my own, knowing I can’t be the only one that is feeling this. Xmas is a struggle for me at best of times, moreso like this year when I don’t see my kids.

I’d love to meet someone and share the second half of my life with, though at times I’m content , happy-ish and accepting of my singledom. Think I’m better with someone thought.

It's a tough one.

It's not much fun being on your own but it's also not much fun being with someone and not being happy.

You want someone there for you,but not just anyone.

Someone who gets you and appreciates you and makes you happy and gives you butterflies.

Tricky bit is finding them.

The Town by The Cross

Partners are for life ( or a good bit of it ) not just for Christmas.

A lot of people feel lonely because they see others bustling about with family and think they must be happy and blissful.

If you feel lonely think about what you can do for others and get involved with social groups or community groups.

You'll soon make friends.

Too many people think that A.N. Other will solve their lonliness........

You have to like yourself and do for others.

Got my Lads from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day morning, after that I’m on my own again.

Certainly this NYE will be a weird one as I won’t be out or even have the London fireworks to watch at midnight either, in a way it’ll feel just like any ordinary night.

So I’ve planned the day to ensure I don’t feel too lonely or isolated. Hope everyone has the best time they can over the festive period

I live alone, work alone and the only person I have spoken to this week was the guy on the counter at the petrol station.

I'm still happy though as I enjoy my own company and choose my own destiny, but I must admit to buying enough Christmas Dinner for two, just in case.

Yup lonely here too. I'm the guy in the friendship group that always turns up as the singleton and it's tragic as fuck! I'd love to wake up to an amazing woman every morning but at my age it's getting harder and harder to find someone who still wants to do "the kids thing". I wish that wasn't such a big thing as there are some lovely women out there who are going to waste! I've got a great family and some top mates around me but there's still plenty of space for a new best friend and lover.

What a fucking depressing way to start Christmas eh? Merry Christmas everyone! x

I've lost 2 mates this year to alcohol despite everyone's best efforts and there's only so much you can do. Ultimately, they have to help themselves.

You deserve a life as well and I'm sure you've done everything you can to help. Don't feel guilty and whilst I'm not saying give up on her, you need to do what's best for you. Good luck and Merry Christmas chief.

It has been a tough year that much is certain. Even for those of us that may revel in being alone, it is always a choice and because of circumstances, that choice has been taken from us.

There will be better days, the storm does not last forever and though sometimes we may believe it, none of us is truly alone. Sometimes we just have to reach out or let others in and whilst we may be afraid or wary, it is only then that we realise our loneliness was of our own making.

Be well all. Have a great Christmas xx
