Hi Phil.

I had no idea what I wanted to be - which was a huge part of the problem - as I now work as a retail assistant though I was in the top sets at school.

Having a very sick mum most of my life (though the tenacious bugger is still alive) and being a stay at home mum didn’t help either, particularly as my youngest has mental health issues.

I know what I want to do when I grow up now though - I want to be an author!

What about you op?

I had two....I wanted to be an RAF pilot like my dad, then in my teens I wanted to be a professional cricketer.

Never achieved either, but I fell into a career that I love so no regrets.

Nope, I never achieved any of them.

I wanted to work in:

The local mines, they closed them.

In Ravenhead glass works, it closed.

The royal navy, picked up a life changing injury.

Currently in compliance, so no where near.

"....what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a microbiologist. Couldn't afford to go to University at the time (different country) but growing up very poor I concentrated a lot on my school work and my sport hoping that one of them would get me out.

Joined the army at 18, became a specialist combat medic and then went on to do factory work and study part time. Eventually made semi pro in two sports and missed the Olympic qualifying time in the 100 metres. Now, working as a Contracts manager and CAD draughtsman

Real life Private Benjamin but my mum informed me the army was nothing like that which was quite disappointing and as I’m no good with authority I wouldn’t have lasted a day

Been in the trade since a very young lad and partly realised the dream

Job wise - I did achieve my ambition with the push from my parents.

I almost chose to be a lawyer but my father strongly against it.

My new ambition now is for an early retirement in Aug 2022.

My dad was a combat medic so I chose that profession for 10 years. I wanted to be like him a sense of pride. I achieved that goal served 10 years wouldn't change a thing. It's where I met hubby best times of my life. Good and bad.

I always think whatever happened is actually what is best for us.

So, it is totally fine not to achieve our ambition which might be worse for us.

I never really had any idea when younger. Very briefly I wanted to be a doctor but I don't test well.

All I knew for sure was I wanted to be successful and work at a career in something important. Watching my mum stay at home, I just knew that wasn't for me.

I've achieved more than I ever thought I would and I am still improving and climbing that career ladder even today. I'd say I achieved my goal at 32 with my last promotion
