Are you doing any exercise? Walking can be good.

Make sure you're eating enough to support your fitness goals. There's a balance to be had, but undereating can harm your goals as well as overeating.

Don’t cut carbs and fats completely as it will make training more difficult, but make sure you are in a small calorie deficit if you want to lose weight

Have a look at James smith’s calorie calculator to work out what calories you need

I have found using a PT will help focus your attention on your actual goals and they give good diet advice whilst beasting you!

There was a great programme the other day with a Dr in bariatric surgery saying there is no one fit solution for all. I will try and find a link.

He was basically saying what works for one won’t work for others and a lot of it is about gut microbes and keeping them healthy. That’s why some people who drink loads of fizzy pop and eat junk can actually be underweight whereas people who eat relatively healthy can be deemed overweight.

He was saying counting calories doesn’t work as we all process them differently. Some burn off faster than others.

Definitely exercise but looking after gut health according to him.

Kind of makes sense when you see what some people do and can eat and don’t put weight on with.

Best to google it and work it out against your bmi and what you’re trying to achieve against how much training you plan to do.

No point carb overloading if you don’t exercise.

It’s a personal thing based on your goals and what you can do to try and achieve them. As someone said earlier speak to a trainer or loads of advice on internet

What works for one won’t work for another but what I will say is you’ll do really well to see any changes in a week

Basically if calorie intake exceeds energy output you put on weight.

You need to find what works for you, try different things, you will fail at times but falling down isn't the problem it is staying down. So keeping going till you find what works for you.

I had a health scare and needed to lose weight. Being a very numerical person I found calorie counting work as it was a simple formula. I looked up the NHS website and set a target of calories to lose 1-2lbs a week.

I lost 3.5 stone in 6 months. I cut out eating crap - fizzy drinks, crisps, biscuits etc.

Ate more fruit and veg. Stir fries are good as you can bulk out with veg.

Also portion control, get a smaller plate it does work.

Lastly exercise, being overweight I lacked a bit of self confidence about going to a gym so I did the 10K steps. This was easy as my job involves going around the site inspecting things. However 3 x 10mins bursts of brisk walking is the equivalent of 10K steps.

Brisk walking is walking at a pace where if you were to sing you would get out of breath. After 6 months with the weight off, joined a gym and never thought I would say this but this is really the think I missed when we had the lock downs.

There is lots of good advice out there get a wide range and figure what works for you.

The journey can be as much fun as the destination.

Follow a diet you can maintain. Can you do this long term? I couldn't.

I always recommend going to see a professional nutritionist. There are plenty around. They can give advice specific to you and your goals. It did wonders for me. Luke

I'm confused how your profile is all spelt fine but this post is a complete mess.

As for dieting its a simple equation really, consume less calories than you use. I've been on a low calorie diet for a few months and lost over 2 stone and that's without any exercise due to gyms being shut. No matter how healthy you eat, if you're not at a calorie deficit then nothing will change

OP,

Best thing I ever did was start running during the 1st lock down (due to slight depression)... this combined with reduced carbs but increased good fats made a difference very quickly...

Running is free no gym needed.. I find it toned the whole body , I only do like 4km a day so circa 16 mins exercise and that’s all I do now which is enough for me ... I’m not into building muscle and my routine doesn’t do that , but it does tone what you do have ...

Loads of steak / eggs and other protein and good veg .. also protein shakes after every run ..

Anyway that’s what I do ..
