Piano sales have skyrocketed during covid.... on an unprecedented 'scale' *ahem*

I'e battled with my family for years against getting rid of our upright. I don't play it as much but the muscle memory is there and I will flex my fingers again one day.

So any pianists or lapsed pianists out there?

Anyone have a grand? (I don't have one.. yet)

How often to you practice? (not enough)

Favourite composers? (Debussy)

What grade did you get to? (7- ish)

etc etc

It’s something else I’ve long wanted to try and learn.

I don’t have room for a piano.

I’m considering asking Santa for an electronic type thing.

Gotta start somewhere.

Why don’t you play more?

Did you just lose love for it?

I hope you take it up again soon.

It’s a wonderful skill to possess.

I play a little bit, but I’m mainly a guitarist. I’d like to spend more time on it. I have a Yamaha Clavinova, but don’t do enough to learn properly. Maybe I could make it a New Year’s resolution.

I am a part-time piano teacher. I doubt 8 could teach you because I would be too distracted.

I have my Grade 8, music A-level and studied music at university.

My favourite composer is JS Bach.

When I can, I do 2-5 hours a day, but I can't currently because I don't have my piano available at the moment because of changes in my living circumstances.

Yes I do have a grand but it's in storage. I am looking for a temporary home for it so I'm not forking out £40/month for it. If anybody wants to look after it for me do let me know. I'd rather it was played than stored in a warehouse.

Just discovered Czerny. Very playable if you can do the basics. Proper nutty fun stuff, albeit last century.

Sort of music hall waltzy, wanders off key and recovers. Mad and fun.

My ex girlfriend has a bechstein upright baby grand. She is a music teacher and specialises with the piano and used to play for me wearing nothing but black hold ups! Happy days.

Who would have thought there are so many attractive piano playing swingers, I babble in piano! I can play a few chords, enough to sing along to but nothing outstanding. I wonder if theres a swinging piano teacher in my areas

I’m a lapsed pianist. I’ve got an ancient electric upright but hate playing it as the keys feel horrible. Would love a proper piano, and a grand if I had the space! I did grade 8 many years ago but then singing took over and I did further training in that instead. I go through phases of playing regularly then nothing for a few months. Favourite composers are Debussy and Satie. Think I’ll play a bit today!

I play the kalimba, which suits me well!

I'm not a piano player in any sense, but it is a basic thumb piano

The good thing for me is that it sounds good even if one can't play...

Thank you for your responses. This was my first ever post. I think it went well.

MM - tickle away. You can be Michael Jackson and I’ll be Paul MCartney

OSITV - I guess I grew out of it.. Found other ways to make sweet music.

GC - Chopsticks is the apex of piano skill. Once you can do that .. you can do anything I reckon.. Especially side my side ‘a deux’ budge up!

YOWD - I don’t really believe in New Years Resolutions but I’m definitely going to play next year… no pressure though. I played the violin too but it’s quite difficult to make the violin sound good.

2part - renting out your grand could work. There should be an app. Alas I don’t have the space. Sad times. I’ll check out your video.

B - Czerny sounds like a hoot (the name sounds familiar)

RSF - sounds romantic and saucy. I’ve made a note.

AMT - Love to hear that you found your perfect swinging piano teacher… but would you be able to concentrate?

D - I love Satie too. It must be nice to accompany yourself as you sing. Glad to hear that you’re inspired for the day.

H - I googled the Kalimba. Turns out I played one absently.. Found it in a classroom. Nice sound.

My muscle memory is shite. Cant play for toffee any more. Will dedicate some time to it when I am back home. I only have my old technical keyboard though, no piano unfortunately.

Very lapsed piano player to a very low standard. Lapsed flute player too, better on that. Keep trying to pick it up to record choir harmonies to aid rehearsal but have nowhere to do so easily.
