New Grand Tour special

So the other week Amazon finally released the latest special for the Grand Tour. I love Clarkson, May and Hammond but have to admit I was pretty disappointed by it.

I know lots of people don't like them etc and there's the whole top gear now and then debate. But for those of you who like Clarkson etc, what did you make of the new special?

Not seen it yet but hopefully it's something to watch over the break that's better than the usual tv offering of repeats

I watched it; it's okay but pretty much a sameness as everything else

It's sad but I think it's time that they wound things up

I usually like their adventures and joining Amazon gave them access to opportunities to do so much more than they could on BBC.

I really enjoyed the boat one but this one was a bit *meh* , nothing to write home about

You might be right I might be clinging onto past glories haha. Hopefully just a blip and if there is another they will be back on form.

I thought it was hilarious!! Them three are comedy gold in me eyes and the older they get the more funny they seem to get! And the for actual motoring, you can't moan at the array of cars and spectacular locations. I think The Grand Tour is brilliant!

I think they weren't expecting the roads to be so terrible and that used up all their time!

See I normally do but it just didn't really make me laugh. And with the roads and modifications it wasn't really one about the cars. So the comedy aspect had to be more for me

on the road to nowhere in particular

I enjoyed it and I was absolutely gobsmacked at how well the Bentley did and how badly the focus performed. Watching James getting swamped was funny too.

Not as dangerous as some episodes but those roads really were treacherous

I've not seen it yet.

I have never liked Clarkson and so have regularly avoided him on Top Gear. However I've seen him on other programmes and read things about him that suggest,Jeremy Clarkson is a character he plays and he is actually a decent thoughtful person.

I will have a look at the new Grand tour but I'll leave it a while, still something about the character I don't approve of . lol

I think that they've probably reached their sell by date. Time to move on to new things. I think their problem is that reality is starting to trump even their silliness so it makes them look a bit tame.

I thought you was preparing to take your mighty caber on tour next year and asking for suggestions of venues to frequent

It was ok, but I would rather watch some of the old Top Gear specials, Polar, Botswana etc.

I enjoyed it but still think the Vietnam, Botswana and Bolivia specials (top gear) were the best things they did.

My thoughts it was a bit meh. There was some funny parts, but over all nothing compared to others theyve done.

travel around a lot.

The carry on or "frachas" etc, should have been dealt with behind closed doors. Top gear is fucked now. Not watched the other tour coz I was told it was toilet....

Watching the polar one on Dave as I type, it shows how epic some of their other ones were and how meh this one was in my mind

And now it’s the Botswana one, two of the very best I reckon

You can always count on Dave

It was just like an old three car adventure from the old days of top gear tbh, very samey. Found the same with the latest season of top gear. Finally a decent line up of a team. But the first episode was great. The rest? Meh.

The trio on old top gear or in the grand tour tent were great as you can liken it to you and your mates being in the pub regalling yourselves and friends of adventures and things going on in the motoring world in a humorous way.

The specials have their place and some have been amazing but this one for me was a let down.

The know the location beforehand and they're fooling nobody about the car modifications either, those tracks are commissioned and would take weeks if not months to procure so it felt too staged.

Without the tent show these are now not good enough as a stand alone show and its only their past glory and friendship that they're counting on to keep them current and for me it didn't work sadly.

I've seen them live and they're good because things happen and their characters shine through but make them act the part and it fails

On the other hand Top Gear is close to getting it right.....get rid of Paddy and replace him with a James May type and they're on to a winner.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed with this one. I cut it a bit of slack though as they were limited by what they could do with a pandemic on.

The jokes were a bit flat too, no real wow/drama moments.

Liked the bit in reunion, rest was just dull and pointless.

No way as good as the previous ones they did. This seemed a pointless exercise, as was their choice of cars.

Think they reached their sell by date.

Also disappointed here.

The Reunion bit was fun, but then it was an hour of driving down a muddy track in the wrong cars. Which we’ve seen before. And before. And before.

Exactly

Only time i laughed to honest was jezza's idea of digging at the very end very childish but i found it funny.

I liked it. Did it break new ground? Probably not, but it's like a comfy jumper, their schtick is their schtick and hasn't really changed over the years.

I was bored with the tent and I much prefer sporadic specials.

It's not like they're churning them out weekly so not sure why people are saying it's time to call it a day.

I'll take 4 of these a year no problems.
