"Very important you are all aware of this scam, 1 you will get a telephone call, from someone who says they work for Microsoft,THE PERSON DOESN'T Microsoft will not contact you ever over the phone. 2 the person will say your pc is in danger of infection/crashing 3 the person then wants you to allow remote access to your pc,to repair it 4 DON'T ALLOW THIS AT ALL COSTS,HANG UP AND INFORM THE POLICE,ITS A SCAM THE PERSON WANTS YOUR DETAILS TO GET MONEY FROM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT!!!!,IF YOU DO ALLOW ACCESS PLEASE CANCEL ALL YOUR BANK/CREDIT CARDS AND TELL THE BANK WHY 5 It happened to a personal friend of mine so be warned 6 i sure hope this helps prevent more fraud " This is true, I own a computer repair centre and we have seen several computers coming in that the owner has had this call. It also scares you because if you fall for it it suggests you have all sorts on your computer like child porn etc, you don't but it suggests it. They do plant a virus in your computer though so you should take it to a computer repair centre to get it cleaned if you are affected. As the OP says hang up and remember that no one from Microsoft would ever phone you to tell you that you have a virus on your computer

" If they are legit they will tell you that you're wrong. Then you ask what's wrong... and if they tell you the right answer you know they are ok. ![]() NO!!!!!!! Jeeeez! If they tell you you are wrong, it just means they have already got the info by some other source and are ready for such 'spoiling' techniques by 'targets'. If you don't know the caller - NEVER NEVER NEVER give ANY personal info over the phone!!!! I used to work for a direct marketing services company years ago and the telemarketing side could tell you all kinds of stories about the sort of info people will give to complete strangers over the phone. I even refused to give info to the CSA because THEY couldn't confirm who they were - didn't arf piss them off! Ha ha ha!!!!!! ![]()

"also on same lines u get a message on your comp saying u accessed a illigal site and the police wil be round in 24 hrs u cannot get rid of this they want your bank detales to repair it this is also a scam had to take mine into shop to get it sorted ...." This one happened to a friend of mine last week - I suggested she download and run MalwareBytes AntiMalware from download.com (it's free), and it found and cleared the problem for her. Her other half was scared to take it to a shop because of all the porn on it, of course!

I have seen this a few times in recent months coming into our shop too, it often puts an image of a Policeman on your screen too. The more sophisticated virus even switches your web cam on and really scared the shit out of a couple of my customers. It's actually quite a nasty little virus that gets quite deep into the computer and has took our engineers a fair bit of time to ensure it is totally removed from the computer.

It's not like there hasn't been enough information put out warning against scams so I'm afraid I have little sympathy for those who still get caught out. p.s. It's a tad pointless calling the police after you've hung and have no info to give them about the scammer. Far better to string them along, asking carefully constructed questions to establish their identity - but above all else, give them the wrong information about yourself. Even if you waste 1/2 an hour of their time it'll be worth it. ![]()

"I like the idea of telling them some fake pc details!! ![]() ![]() My friend is an IT director and pretty savvy. He ended up giving his bank details to con men and had to cancel his cards etc. Still don't know how he fell for that one as these con men are as obvious to me as the Nigerian princes with gazillions in the bank they'll share with me if I lodge their cheque in my bank account! ![]()
