Hi all you ink lovers. I'm off for a new tattoo this afternoon. It's going on my tum to cover an abdominal scar from just under boobs to the groin. Can I ask what you would put on your tattoos and should I wait a few days for scabbing etc to go...

Your tattoo artist will likely give you advice on what to do as well as some relevant creams

I used preperation H gel straight away..Nice and cooling and very easy to apply.I was reccomended bepanthan but found it very 'gritty' to apply.

I got a really good cream from the tattoo shop for one of mine, but the last time she suggested bepanthen but a really small amount and it worked brilliantly.

Aloe Vera gel first few days then coconut cream is what I’ve used on all of mine. Works amazingly...enjoy.

Follow the advice of the tattooist.

My latest tattoo was covered by a clear film for 5 days then was advised to rub a small amount of coconut oil/bepathan in after showering daily.

Bepanthen have changed their ingredients artists no longer recommend it for after care. My shop sells a brand called “tattoo goo” but follow the advice of your artist/studio.

Do whatever your tattooist tells you to do. That way if anything goes wrong they'll be more likely to help you.

I avoid bepanthan now since they changed the formula. I tend to use a non scented, natural cocoa butter.

I used to use bepanthen. Do not use it....the new recipe contains lanolin that will make the tattoo rash and you’ll need steroid cream. It’s in the internet about it.

I always wash mine in warm soapy water, apply a layer of coconut oil and leave them be. They will weep for the first couple of days so important to keep covered otherwise the black may go a dark off coloured blue.

I am pretty covered and that’s always worked for me

I keep my clean but let air get to them, start moisturising after 2 days, using anything non perumed and preferably natural like coconut oil or shea butter x

The absolute very best stuff I’ve ever used is a cream called croc lite. It’s a balm that heals tattoos like nothing I’ve ever seen, and I’ve got a LOT of ink. Shortened my healing time from 6 days to 3.

I used cocoa butter on my sleeve, worked a treat. Every 3 hours and try not to pick as it peels lol.

Years back after a new tattoo applied wash it twice a day with warm salty water, pat dry, if itching we used Savlon, always covered with like kitchen roll as it absorbs leaking from the damaged skin, now days they cover new designs in a clear film,years back the colouring was mixed by the artist with alcohol to evaporate away leaving the pigment to heal over, now days it's premixed colour, so many artists to day great at the art side but not at the care side.
