Just where is the border of north and south? I am thinking North is where a half an inch of snow does not make the news

Pretty spot on. Where I am in Notts, we speak with a Northern accent, travel 30 minutes south and they have southern accents.

North is when it's 20 degrees and classed as a scorcher.In the north the only gloves that are worn in winter are oven gloves. The summer consists of one hot day at 24 degrees.

Governmentally the North of England lies between the Scottish border and, roughly, the River Trent. It includes the authority regions of Manchester, Liverpool, Tees Valley, North East, North of Tyne, Sheffield and Leeds (Wikipedia).

Culturally and linquisticly 'The North' has been considered as starting north of Watford Gap but this would include The Midlands as well.

North is where stoke (on Trent) ends and becomes Cheshire. So m6 junction 16, and above.

Coming from the top of S-o-T I’d personally say I’m more a northerner than southern or midlands.
