Cooking Christmas Dinner

Jump to newest

It will be the 1st time I have cooked the Christmas Dinner for my parents in my new house!

It's only going to be the 3 of us for Christmas day & Boxing Day this year, so it will hardly be a manic time in the kitchen.

I have a range cooker so plenty of room for everything to be cooked at the same time.

I am sure it will be as nice a day as it can be, but I do reminisce on Christmasses past when I was a child.

I didn't truly appreciate all the hard work that my Grandparents used to put in to make the Christmas Dinner extra special!

It is only when you have to do it yourself that you realise all that is involved!

Are you cooking Christmas Dinner this year? Or are you lucky to be invited to enjoy the festivities at someone else's home?

I’m cooking this year, but it’s something that I do all of the time and I enjoy it.

My tips are to prep as much as you can the day before, I will make the stuffing, the cranberry sauce and bread sauce on Christmas Eve and also peel the veg. That gives me more time to enjoy Christmas Day and join in the fun.

Remember it’s just like a Sunday roast with a few additions.

Cooking for myself, my mum and son. Making it as easy as possible as have no desire to spend Xmas day stuck in a kitchen.

We have our christmas dinner on xmas eve, then make leftovers pie for xmas day. Means we can all enjoy opening presents and spend the day with the kids rather than stressing over cooking times.

At the end of the day, it's a sunday roast with a couple of extra side dishes!

Thank you folks. I am not worried about it. I have done Christmas dinner a few times before. This is just the 1st time in my new home so it does feel a little different.

I am big on advance planning and organisation so already have all of the food.

I will be writing out a cooking timing plan today to make sure that I know all of the stages for bringing this fine feast together at the same time!

I cook traditional Christmas dinner for the family. Turkey, pigs in blankets, home baked rolls, roast potatoes crisp on the outside and fluffy within....

I’m cooking for 2. It will be a simple dinner of veg and a Turkey Crown for me.

Too much fuss which isn’t needed plus I’m not spending a lot of time in the kitchen.

Also cooking for two and also a crown. Just wish I had your optimism, about it being simple lol. Last pizza ended up in the bin. Though, needed a chainsaw to 'persuade' it.

Always cook Xmas dinner for my family. Hard work but I enjoy it - glass of vino in hand - and I can do it exactly as I like it!

I don’t think I’ve ever cooked a Christmas dinner. Quite happy to receive one though lol. As someone else said it’s just a fancy roast with a few extra trimmings. I’m veggie so I’m having Sainsbury’s nut roast which is topped with cranberry’s its delicious. Veggie gravy too coz the one my fam make uses bones and meat juices.

The real question here though

Yorkshire’s or no?? To me they are a Xmas and Roast dinner staple. To others they’re not.

Its not a roast of any kind if there aren't any Yorkshires?

My advice is..... keep it simple, avoid stress, and remember that it is the company that's important, not the food!

Relax, chill out, and have a cool Yule!

We are in tier 3 so where we were going away for Xmas, we've taken the decision to stay home, so just the three of us with a huge turkey. Could be eating it for weeks
