recomended reading

Ive just finished reading the aragon books, and recently read all of terry pratchets, some of david eddings and all of ann maccafarys..

so to any sci fi/ fantasy readers out there, can you recomend some more books for me to read.

the joys of a kindle means i dont have to wait to get them lol

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Read the Wizard of Earthsea Ursula Le Guin. It was the first fantasy book I read as child and have followed it ever since - that's nearly 40 years of one series.

The other long running one is Stephen King's Dark Tower series. That's been almost 30 years. There is an updated version of the Gunslinger now.

Then for sheer craft and wit the children's series Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. Just got the last of the series yesterday.

Terry Pratchet is one of our best authors imho. David Eddings got very similar, he only has one story and I found I read it over and over again in the Malloerean and then again in the Chrystal Rose. I never realy liked Anne McCafery, though Pern was a very detailed world......

Hard Sci Fi'ers try Peter F Hamilton's Nights Dawn Trillogy, space opera with a very dark twist, Steven Baxter is also excellent. Fantasists should give the Rift War books and his mirror of the Tsauranii world by Raymond E Fiest........

That having been said, I have just read I Claudius and Claudius the God....Excellent books......

Try Steven Erikson! The Malazan Books Of The Fallen series! A great read if ou enjoy the slightly darker side of fantasy!

Feist is one of my fave authors so start wiuth Magician and work your way thru them.

A couple more to try.....

A warlock in spite of himself ..Christopher Stasheff

Hiero's journey .... Stirling e Lanier

Bloodstone ...Karl edward Wagner

Deathworld.....Harry Harrison

the list goes on and on lol just enjoy them all

I'd second the recommendation for Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl books. Also Derek Landy's Skulduggery Pleasant series - again, they are were written for children but are very good.

I personally like Laurel K. Hamilton's Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series although they are definitely NOT for children.

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever.

Screws your head up a bit though

ohh I have a few copies of that, but never got past the word, "condesending".

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

The Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch is great, although he's only done 2 so far due to illness.

Highly recommend the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaranovitch. And if you like McAffrey, then the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik is full of dragons.

I definitely second the Women of the Otherworld books; they are brilliant!

Dean Koontz, Brian Lumley, Nancy A Collins, Chine Mieville, James Herbert, Kim Harrison, Michael Scott Rohan, Michael Moorcock...all fantastic authors with many works to their name and many more who I can't think of off the top of my head

I loved the Thomas Covenant Chronicles as a teenager but, when I tried to read them again as an adult, I also found them heavy going.
