Find Them Dead - Peter James

My favourite author, featuring one of my favourite characters - slightly different from the normal murder investigation, more a court room drama but just as good as any of the others in the series.

Next up it's a toss up between a Ben Elton or the sequel to Tattoist Of Auschwitz called Cilka's Journey

Ben Elton's books are spot on usually and a real reflection of life a lot of the time - the one that was basically a spoof of X Factor was bang on the mark.

My favourite recent one though was Time And Time Again about a man sent back in time to prevent the start of the First World War, the thinking being it would stop the unnecessary bloodshed in the trenches and also prevent the rise of Hitler and the Nazis and so stop World War II - is a real make you stop and think book

Oh forgot Two Brothers which was also very good and again thought provoking. Forget the story but First Casualty a murder mystery set in the trenches was also very good.

Identity Crisis is the one of his I have lined up for a potential next after I finish Peter James

In between books at the moment, trying to decide what to read next, it will be either; The Covent Garden Ladies (which Harlots is based on); The Council of Twelve, book 6 of a series about an executioner and his family set in late 1600s Bavaria; Court No 1 The Old Bailey; or The Child of Auschwitz

I've had to stop reading Nophek Gloss, it just didn't work for me and I've so many books to read. It's got great reviews, the writing was fine so it's just down to taste. I may go back to the wheel of time by Robert Jordan, I stopped at book five for a break. May go historical fiction, has anyone read The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton?

Quick recommendation for Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. My book of the year.

Boomeritis - Ken Wilber

The story of a naïve young undergraduate student in computer science and his quest for meaning in a fragmented world provides the setting in which Wilber contrasts the alienated flatland of scientific materialism with the integral vision, which embraces body, mind, soul, and spirit in self, culture, and nature. The book especially targets one of the most stubborn obstacles to realising the integral vision: a disease of egocentrism and narcissism that Wilber calls boomeritis because it seems to plague the baby-boomer generation most of all.

Through a series of sparkling seminar-lectures skillfully interwoven with the hero ’s misadventures in the realms of sex, drugs, and popular culture, all of the major tenets of extreme postmodernism are criticised and exemplified , including the author having a bad case of boomeritis himself. Parody, intellectual slapstick, and a mind-twisting surprise ending unite to produce a highly entertaining summary of the work of cutting-edge theorists in human development from around the world.
