Anyone organised a work’s secret Santa ? How can something so easy be so bloody hard , ten pound you buy a gift for the person you pulled out of the tin , so far I’ve had people pull out and keep two names , so had to re do it , then you get the I don’t like them or know them , can I pull another name out , no , trying to get the gifts back is another thing , 50 people, I’m getting stressed, I’ve had one lady bring in a jack Daniels whisky set for a Muslim lady , another has put a tenner in a card ? Wtf , we have people off work for two weeks with Covid , so won’t be getting there gifts on time , never ever again

Under the Duvet

It used to be like that at our place but now you give three examples of gifts you'd like, and your "Santa" then has the heads up and can pick you something you might actually like/use.

I’m sorry... I’m sure it must be hell for you... but this did make me laugh! You do know you’re not responsible for the gift choices... and anyone who signs up surely knows that, if they get a gist at all, that they probably won’t like it!

I did a maternity collection for our boss and that was a nightmare... pretty straightforward compared to this!

Good luck...

I feel your pain - 50 is a lot to manage, like herding cats. I think Secret Santa’s work best if the presents are funny but not rude as people can get offended.

If people are in different departments try to find one organised person in each to be reps and manage their staff and you manage the reps in each dept.

I tried so hard to make it simple , we have a lot of different nationalities at my place , and most have never done or heard of secret Santa before ,I wrote names on gift tags placed them into envelopes so they just had to wrap the gift up put the gift tag on and bring it back , 3 weeks later I’ve had 9 back , there will be arguments as some are using it to get back at people they don’t like ,I’m dreading the day we get to open up the gifts , I know some of the things they are buying , sex toys , mugs with rude messages on etc

Ot sounds like a plan and not something I'd want to organise.

Fair play to those that do!

I used to work in public sector for a local authority and at our Christmas Lunch we all opened our presents. Mine was a mug with lots of drawings of very small people on it. My director who was quite a straight laced, religious person picked my mug up to look at it and her face turned bright red when she realised it showed sexual positions. Lol. Her gift was a crocheted Willy warmer and someone had to explain what it was for. A bit of a waste of time and money really.

Oh Christ, that sounds awful. Whatever happened to a generic inoffensive gift? (Not that you want them anyway, but...)

I started a new job this week and got roped straight in without knowing anyone. Hope they like chocolate

Titz Towers, North Notts

When I worked in an office I used to love these. It was great trying to be nicely creative for a tenner buying someone something they never knew they needed

I used to participate in all this Christmas b@ll@cks at work...

Secret santa, Christmas jumper day, Christmas picnic food day, Christmas cards day.... I dont do any of that crap anymore..

Its stressful enough sorting out Christmas at home never mind work as well.

I'm the grinch when it comes to it all now...

Good thing is I never get asked anymore to help out

We don’t choose names we just put gifts in and if you put one in you get to draw one if you didn’t you don’t. Easy if people pull out then or off etc
