"Charity begins at home but overseas funding is as much about bribes and influence as anything United Nations Children's Fund = UNICEF. It's an international charity, Tom. It works throughout the world. That is an answer to a question I did not ask but what's going on here?" You've suggested here that international funding is somehow related to bribery. I'm pointing out that the charity concerned works globally; it's part of the United Nations, of which we are a member. It's a worldwide charity for children across the world, the UK included, if it's needed. It's not about one country sending money to another.

United Nations members contributing to a fund that can be used to support children anywhere in the world where children need help. That's what it's about. Search engine it, Tom UNICEF might not have funded food for UK children in this way before, but it's been heavily involved in UK children's charitable work for many years and works across maternity hospitals in the UK via it's "Baby Friendly" initiative, which aims to support breastfeeding. That's but one example. The UNICEF website has plenty of info.

"Think they contributed only 25k.. What does that tell you ?" It tells me that Unicef has pledged a grant of £25,000 to the community project School Food Matters, which will use the money to supply 18,000 nutritious breakfasts to 25 schools over the two-week Christmas holidays and February half-term, feeding vulnerable children and families in Southwark, south London, who have been severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. The food delivery firm Abel & Cole will also provide 1.2 tonnes of fruit and veg worth £4,500 to include in the boxes. Source: The Guardian

"Only 25 schools.. ? All very odd.. There is more to this than meets the eye" Read it again. The project is a community project in Southwark. The project organisers will have applied for funding for their project and acquired it from UNICEF. I've written plenty of funding bids to various charitable organisations, local authorities, private businesses etc. It's how charity projects work. It's got fuck all to do with the Government (the project, that is).

" Did you not read what was said above it is a local charity specific to the Southwark borough that asked for help from unicef for the children in that borough, hence why only 25 schools. I’m sure if you search, most local areas have charities helping those in need, most being supported by residents of the local communities. Just in my borough we have 8 different initiatives running and the locals, volunteers and the donations / support has been phenomenal. Southwark obviously needed extra help, as hard for locals to assist if they are the ones needing the help.

" The Guardian peddles more spin than a Test Match bowler.. " That really is laughable coming from someone renowned for posting half a story written in such a way as to stir the hornet's nest!! It really is quite simple - UNICEF is a charity that is connected to the United Nations (of which the UK is a member) to help children in need, regardless of the country they are from - they have donated £25,000 to help a local area in London (that well known war zone according to you OP!!) feed it's children in need at a time of crisis. Just as many other charities across the country and the world are doing - it's relevant and it's newsworthy and ties in with other similar stories such as the work Marcus Rashford is doing so I can only conclude that once again the pot is being stirred for no apparent reason here.

"Let’s face it, we are living through an unprecedented historical moment. All humans and potentially all life on Earth is facing an existential crisis. Food poverty, and needing to apply for aid from UNICEF and food banks are just symptomatic of the material problems we have created, that are causing a planet-wide system crash. How can we feed 10 billion people, when ecosystems collapse to a point where they can only support 1 billion? We’ve not got to got long to work out how we can do this. Money and people can be thrown at the problems, however there are significant obstacles. Finding concrete solutions to our global collapse is impeded by walls, built from the building blocks of personal, social, political and economic limitations. The oligarchs and global capitalist elite have erected, maintained and promoted those walls to increase their own financial security, at the expense of hurtling us towards a future, that is clearly on a trajectory towards disastrous collapse. Nevertheless these walls can be torn down and there is a global community attempting to do so. Often that community is looked at with disdain by those who have been hoodwinked and sedated by the media in collusion with the power brokers, and those paralysed by the existential anxieties this brittle, anxiety inducing, non-linear, incomprehensible world produces. However, there is one set of blocks in the wall that we can control and they are our personal blocks. Those blocks are underpinned by our own existential anxiety, our own fear of death. Breaking through our own fears is the way to finding the personal freedom to act for the good of humanity. In that way we can discover the capacity and resilience to overcome the brittleness, the empathy and mindfulness to help those who are anxious, the transparency of data and intuition to make sense of the incomprehensible, and the necessary context and adaptability to navigate the web on non-liners system that need to be transformed. When all around suggests we are in an era of catastrophic collapse, we are also on the precipice of the age of transformation and integration. All we need to do is face our fears and see with new eyes...... " We have people in this country who live in homes costing millions of pounds. We have other people who can barely enough to survive There is plenty to go round It's about minimising those inequalities..instead we are hell bent on making them bigger.

We have people in this country who live in homes costing millions of pounds. "This is what happens when you vote in the nasty party over and over again. It isn’t just confined to UK, it pervades the whole world to a greater or lesser extent." I think other countries (the scandi ones in particular)try to level off that inequality. We and America positively encourage it. And whilst selfishness is a very human trait, once again the notion of 'I'm alright Jack'is actively encouraged here.

At the same time we have the power to convene in a way that is both amazing in how quickly we can create global movements - e.g., BLM, at the same time how destructive that platform power can be e.g., Trump.... We need to find more ways to use that power to transform and integrate, both at home and across the globe.

I think Scandinavia is doing better, because their predominant mindset is more oriented towards collective good, however they still experience some similarities. I agree that our way of thinking in the UK and US needs to evolve through the stage Scandinavia are at though.

That’s a breathtakingly enormous ask of people who have been on a personal journey for a long time, let alone those who are deeply unconscious. We..? I utterly agree with everything you’ve said...I just don’t see it happening in any reasonable time frame and without catastrophic global shit hitting the fan. This was because then Chancellor, George Osbourne created an economic policy on the basis of a scientific study he readily referenced as his reasoning behind austerity measures - it also transpired that the works he referenced & based economic decisions on was both out of date & incorrect. In short, the results on an entirely egotistical series of measures bestowed upon us by a Tory government. That’s what happened.

"Jacob reese mogg has condemned UNICEF , always taking the popular stance " He supported the Government's stance on not paying for much needed holiday hunger free school meals replacements. He condemned Rashford for campaigning for holiday hunger for kids. He condemns UNICEF for feeding hungry kids. There's a theme here. All are political stunts to him.

Yes multi millionaire Rees Mogg says how disgusting it is that an organisation helps feed hungry children. I bet that fucker has spent more on a single meal at times than the total amount that UNICEF is donating. How many billion has he handed out to his greedy mates from the covid purse over the last nine months? Rees Mogg has no moral right to say jack shit. In any equitable society he would be hung upside down by his ankles until all the money falls out of his trouser pockets, that alone would go a long way towards feeding the hungry. The man disgusts me, he is a vile excuse for a human being.

"And under 3 terms of Bliar? No poverty.. And of course he shares his wealth.. " I've never defended Blair in any way. In fact i find him to be another disgusting waste of oxygen. As far as the bad things that politicians do, i hold almost all of them in condemnation. There are times when some of them are less evil than others, that is about the best i can say about all political parties in this country over than last 50 years. But toads like Rees Mogg bring a new level of vileness to the debate. A government that actually laughs about children being hungry and who only do anything when they are shamed into it - not that they feel or understand shame. They do nothing for reasons other than PR, and if this occasionally aligns with doing something decent, it is only by accident. Is Starmer as bad? No idea. Probably. There should be a special circle of hell reserved for politicians.

"This is what happens when you vote in the nasty party over and over again. It isn’t just confined to UK, it pervades the whole world to a greater or lesser extent. I think other countries (the scandi ones in particular)try to level off that inequality. We and America positively encourage it. And whilst selfishness is a very human trait, once again the notion of 'I'm alright Jack'is actively encouraged here. I think Scandinavia is doing better, because their predominant mindset is more oriented towards collective good, however they still experience some similarities. I agree that our way of thinking in the UK and US needs to evolve through the stage Scandinavia are at though. Their way of thinking is simply more progressive than ours." Agreed, they have evolved further as a culture, in their systems of governance, in their behaviour and in the mindsets of a lot of individuals.

All we need to do..? All..? That’s a breathtakingly enormous ask of people who have been on a personal journey for a long time, let alone those who are deeply unconscious. We..? As in every single person in a position of any privilege on the planet? And then what? I utterly agree with everything you’ve said...I just don’t see it happening in any reasonable time frame and without catastrophic global shit hitting the fan. And then those remaining will be so crippled with PTSD. I have PMT today. " Yes it was a bit glib. However looking for answers outside of ourselves at the moment is futile if we don’t look within. The problems we face are a mirror of our collective consciousness. The transformations needed will happen one person at a time, so we can all do our part by looking in the mirror.
