Personally I hate xmas, and it down to personal choice. But I think that all broadband and wifi services should go down for xmas day just to get families together, I say this as I have no family but loved xmas when I had family. What ur take on the suggestion of no broadband or wifi on xmas day?

I don't think it's as special as it once was. It feels that people now rush to "get there" but then quickly want to pack it all up, if you get what I mean?

In my little town there's four express type major shops, all will be open for a period on Christmas day!

The broadband/wifi idea is a daft one, people use it to communicate with loved ones and friends, why prevent that from happening?

Agree with this, I know of a couple of people who packed thier decorations away on boxing day if through they where lucky to be off until the new year. but must admit its new years eve i hate,

I don't love or hate it. It's lost a lot of the meaning it once held for me. I enjoy being with family and obviously the dinner when not working through it.

Since my mum passed away xmas has never been the same and even worse my dad passed away this year and xmas day is his birthday. Im not looking forward to xmas at all. However, i have a teenager and i have to make xmas the best i can.

I like the fun build up and can put on a happy show for my boys. However I hate the actual day well Xmas eve onwards really.

No extended family. No parents. Just my boys and I and it has been for years. All the expectation and pressure on people for a day. When I just feel guilty for them that it's just me and I choose such a useless man to be their dad. And the constant reminder I'm lonely

We don’t do much for Christmas & haven’t for many years due to kids are all adults & got their own world , we tend to do the big family get together things ie BBQ in the summer months . Christmas in our opinion is far to commercialised but nice if you little ones

I love Christmas, especially in Japan (or kurisumasu, as it's known) - all the good stuff and none of the religious rubbish. It's not a public holiday, but people celebrate getting together with family and there's always a good atmosphere. KFC is the place to go for some strange reason

Most of my family have passed away and there aren't any children- so it's just another day.

It's nice to get together with my remaining family and eat too much though

I enjoy it...when it's actually Christmas, not in bloody September! I don't like the crass commercialism of it, I don't tend to buy presents other than small, personal/meaningful tokens for a few people close to me. I never put decorations up, but I do enjoy Christmas dinner and a couple of days off work.

Christmas kept simple can be lovely. I Used to get so excited putting a stocking out until I found out Father Christmas didn't exist a few years ago.

In all seriousness though. It causes more stress than contentment. As fabbers have already cited, the commercial greed is sickening.

I used to work in retail where Xmas was referred to as (peak.) On Christmas eve after the last panic buying customers had vacated, we all had to stay on a couple of hours pulling down the Xmas pos and replacing it with, .. Yep, THE SALE.

Christmas was 1 day off, then back in on Boxing day at 8AM.

For all the people saying it's important family time, the footfall and utter chaos of frenzied spending from open to close on Boxing Day, tells its own story.

After only a day of family confinement people had to have some retail escape therapy, greedily bustling one another aside to be first to the cheapest bargains. A far cry from the goodwill spirit it ought to be. Greed is never more potent than at Christmas.

Other than that though, I love it.

I used to hate it and had a lot of difficulties with it so stopped 'doing' it a few years ago. Not a case of bah humbug, if you like it fair enough if you would rather do your own thing also good.

I hate it. I hate all holidays and celebration times.

My father ruined everything even bank holidays or random days off.

I have eliminated him from my life and tried so hard to enjoy things and get into the spirit but its too hard after all the years being made miserable. The anxiety I get is crippling and Christmas by far is worst ... please dont take my wifi!!!

I guess like most things in life, it's very individual. For me, I have wonderful memories of big family get togethers from my childhood and we have always tried to make it special for our kids and now the grandchildren. I suppose we are fottunate to have a close family and friends network, although most of the family from my childhood have now passed away, the great atmosphere is still kept alive.

I think it's what you make of it. I hate the rampant consumerism and the pressure to spend up big, eat too much and drink way too much. But you can step back, think of others, bring joy in different ways.

It's also when you make it. I have a medic in the family, so our Christmas was always "when X can come" and it was a ridiculously loud huge family time of togetherness. (This year I'm forgoing Christmas, which I'll be celebrating at vaccine plus immune response plus when I can get to my family again)

I absolutely love it. In non-covid times I get together with almost the entire extended family, we play stupid games and tell all the kids we can't believe how much they've grown, my aunties tell everyone they aren't eating enough while trying to force a third helping of trifle onto everyone.

It's warm and loving and full of little daft traditions.

We are together every day for almost a week, and it does start to grate by the end. It'll be interesting this year to see what I actually miss and what I do out of a sense of obligation.
