I tend to feel a little sombre most birthdays, that's coz in my 43 years I've probably had about 4 actual great ones that I've enjoyed and felt special.

Now I'm shocked as I reach each one that I'm still alive in all honesty. Yes I do feel like "fuck me, another year and I'm still stuck in the same rut" but only I can change that and it means taking risks. I like to know what I'm dealing with so avoid big risks these days.

OP I used to absolutely hate birthdays when I was your age. It highlighted that I didn't speak to my dad and that his side of the family also disowned me. But as I grew older and more confident in myself those things didn't matter as much. I don't know why you're not looking forward to your birthday, but it's just another day. Happy birthday from me

Not everyone enjoys birthdays, same way as not everyone enjoys Christmas.

You don't have to celebrate your birthday if you don't want to.

Its been a weird year for a lot of people, I can understand how you feel as if time is passing you by.

I’m not into birthdays because I hate being the centre of attention. I’m not comfortable with it. Don’t let it get you down at your young age though OP. At 21 you’ve got so much time left in life. So many more experiences to have and enjoy.

Op, your feelings are perfectly valid, and your age do not change that.

It’s ok if you don’t like your birthday, you don’t have to. Can you choose something you’d really like to do, if that is watching films with popcorn, going for a walk, seeing friends, whatever you want.

My parents left me on a boarding school when I was 4 didn’t seen them till I got the university

All I received was a letter a month and money to spend

And grow up 15 years without celebrating birthday or Christmas

So I guess I’m used to it

But chin up

It’s your day

I didn't get depressed at 21: I'd just got married and about to start a law degree...life was good.

When I got to 40 however...now that's a different story!

Just celebrated 60 during covid. Just happy and grateful to be alive, not wasting time on things I can't change!
