"Yep, 60 years too many."

I just don’t understand the idea of soaps full stop tbh. It’s not just Corrie.

It's certainly a strange but popular concept.

I used to watch it when I was younger and growing up but recent years not so much the storylines aren’t very good imo it was the old characters that made it

The story lines are very good covering real life topics I find! Could so relate to jasmines story as I lived similar! Obvs not the violent end ! And little Oliver was so heartbreaking but so real to life x

It’s the watching actors play out a condensed version of “Real Life” that I don’t get. What do you get out of it? There’s no escapism as it’s stuff that happens to everyone anyway? Does it make anyone feel better knowing shit in their lives happens to everyone? Thought we all knew that anyway didn’t we? Why do we need actors to tell us?

It’s like watching Eastenders when you’ve got £50 in your pocket, empty cupboards, multiple mouths to feed & it’s two weeks till payday.

Then going “Oh I do feel xyz with her problem of no job & eight month old baby & she’s being evicted!”.

No she’s fcking not, she’s a nineteen year old actress earning £100k a year! & probably couldn’t give two shits the fact you feel at one with her character while she shoves some more Charlie up her nose..

Sorry but I’ll never understand living real life & spending time watching actors play at living real life. I want my entertainment to be escapism not just an extension of my mostly mundane, safe, everyday life with its occasional bits of life, love, sadness & death. I don’t need to watch fake people doing the same?

Anyway here’s to the next sixty years but I’ll stick to my documentaries & escapist wanderings through the universe etc.

There and to the left a bit

Like most things it comes down to subjective preference I guess - personally I like Corrie and have watched it for around 35 years or more on and off (mostly on) - yes it's an exaggerated version of real life, and maybe *that* is one of the reasons people relate to soaps, *because* they can draw parallels, or see situations being played out that may help them with their own lives, or see they're not alone in how they think or act - rather than seeing something that is escapist and unlikely ever to have an impact on their actual lives - not that there is anything wrong with that, we all need an escape from reality at times.

For me Corrie is well written, well acted (mostly), combines pathos, drama and humour perfectly and brings to life situations many of us face on a daily basis, and can help us through them - and for that I personally celebrate it and enjoy it, but respect that others may not.

I don't like modern Corrie

I love the earlier episodes

They were filled to the brim with character, caricature, wit, charm and familiarity

Some fantastic acting too - watch the Pat Pheonix masterclass clip on YouTube for an example
