sex discrimination

if a swingers club, or any club for that matter,charges men to enter a club but lets single women in for free, are they in breach of sex discrimination laws?

i know there have been cases of old fashioned gentlemens clubs being prosecuted for similar deeds.

A swinging club is a private club, so i dont think the same rules apply.

There have been other threads about this but can't remember the outcome or consensus of opinion...

However, would be a brave man taking it to court and testing it.

The mechanisms of the Equality Act are complex, but here is a summary. Under the Equality Act, discrimination is defined as where someone treats another less favourably than they treat others because of a “protected characteristic”, and gender is a “protected characteristic”. A club is deemed a “service provider” under the Act, and it is illegal for a service provider to discriminate as to the terms on which they provide their services. Because the club is directly (as opposed to indirectly) discriminating, because they are discriminating on gender alone, they cannot justify their door policy on any business consideration.

In sum, a club that has an entrance policy that favours females over males discriminates for the purposes of the Equality Act. It seems that any man who bears the burden of such a policy may be able to make a claim against the club.

i dont think it matters. any club is private property and my understanding is that you are not allowed to discriminate against anyone because of their gender regardless of the circumstances.

insurance companies are being made to equalise insurance premiums because their current pricing discriminates against young men and they have a valid reason for charging more to young male drivers.

yeah. they will probably let me in then kick me out the back door with my head in a box.

but on a serious note. it does seem that they would be in breach yet no-one would have the balls to test it in court.

it is similar in a way to escorts ripping guys off knowing they wont get reported...

I suppose I look at this way:-

go out pubbing clubbing-spend lotsa money getting d*unk..in an environment that can easily turn hostile.I rarely get meets outwith fab(I'm pretty honest about that, but i'm also pretty honest knowing I'm not really wanting meet for dates and such at present)

In a swing club i feel safe, and generally have the same agenda and dont think its too great to get smashed(it has happened though)

I barely go any swinging clubs(not that we have many up here) at the moment anyway, as a tenner can get me y drink and where i need to go to most times lol
