It’s taken me a week to get used to life without my 4 legged friend. Seen him born and he gave me 10 years of love,loyalty and lots off smelly kisses. He had a suspected Stoke and went down hill in a matter of days. I was there when he went to sleep so feel blessed that was possible considering covid etc. I didn’t ask for he’s ashes. Regretting it now but it is what it is. Got me throu lockdown, miss him greeting me when I come home.

I wanna give another dog a home but think it’s too soon for that. A strange list but I just wanted to share my loss with anyone that can relate to it.

Sorry for your loss OP.

We've both had to say sad farewells for our fur babies so totally relate.

Losing my pup is still one of the toughest things I've been through.

They leave paw prints on our hearts.

Feeling your pain OP. It does get easier but you'll never forget him.

When my old dog went I was ready immediately to home another dog. Not to replace him but because I wanted a dog in my life and in my house, it felt empty without it. My then partner refused to allow it, and I should not have listened as the next few months were so hard without a dog around. About 5 months after he went we did rehome a dog, and it isn't the same but it is wonderful having her here.

You'll know when you are ready.

Yes, we can absolutely relate to it. We were friends with a big old black cat for a lot of years. Both of us cried in the vets waiting room when we took our old friend on his last journey.I

I know advice is probably the last thing you want to hear, but please try to keep your mind occupied and cry when you need to. Let it out, don't bubble it up inside you.

Ah sorry to read such sad news.

I know the pain. It’s not unreasonable to be so sad, it’s a bereavement.

Because you had your little mate so long, maybe give it some time, before you jump back in, and another thing to think about, maybe don’t go for the same type again, as I’ve found you subconsciously always compare former with the latter.

I know too well how you feel and it is a nightmare, sorry to hear of your loss. I thought I wouldn’t replace mine the last time but two months later a pup was in the house. Best things ever, keep you sane and something to focus on.

Tear in my reading this. Know what you are going through. Been a number of years since we lost our two. This post brought back very sad memories bit also very happy ones. We've never replaced ours. Couldn't despite numerous requests from the kids.

My old guy is showing his age now

I can't think of him not being here, but know one day it will come

I know I will get another, but probably wait until I'm nearer to retirement age to make the new commitment

little house on the praire

I rescue senior cats so the epectation is they wont be around long.

However the last cat i adopted was 10 and severly overweight. I got her down to her ideal weight and had a special bond. I love all my cats but there was something special about her.

Anyway she got heart failure and i had to have her put to sleep. Thats just over 2 years ago and im still to distraught to get another cat. I still have my three seniors though

When it's right, rehome another, it will never be the same but you will love them still

So sorry for your loss, it is a horrible time to lose your friend.

I lost my GSD 10 years ago and I was broken, he had epilepsy, never regained consciousness after a big sezuire. We found out later it was caused by a brain tumour.

Just be kind to yourself, and give yourself time

I know you said about the ashes, have you thought about planting a bush for him? I planted a Butterfly bush in the garden where he used to lie

They fill such a huge purpose in your life, take the time to grieve then get yourself another one, We foster for rescue (and fail a lot) my dogs are everything to me so I know what you're going through

OP myself and Lollypop2000 can understand and relate to how you are feeling as we lost our elderly pupper last month. A huge whole is missing from our lives at the moment

it was discussed "no more pets" but then we found ourselves looking daily!

We are looking for a rescue pupper or crossbreed puppy(mongrel is the proper term! )...currently however the cost is more than threefold! so we are waiting patiently until the right good boi comes along and hopefully will hear paws clattering around very soon!

we buried our girl in her favourite spot in the garden, a small plaque is on the side of the shed and a climbing dog rose is to be planted in the new year to climb beside it.

Chin up OP! To that dog you where his world! Sending you some virtual man hugs! I was never allowed a dog growing up living with my parents finally got my boy a year after i moved out. He’s 7 and starting to look old now and I can’t even think about when that day comes!

Glad you liked the idea, is there any plants in a special place of his?

I chose a butterfly bush because he used to get excited when he saw them. When he got poorly his eyes would light if he saw one

Dogs are such beautiful, loyal souls.

I think it's good always have a decent gap in between pets - it's kind of like a period in honour of them where you're not just trying to replace them (as that isn't possible).
