How many profiles have this on it...

Sorry but it's very difficult to do more when trying to start a conversation.

I can't go straight into their interests, how's the family is your dog better etc unless I get past the first introduction and get to know the recipient.

Anyone else find this frustrating?

Brighton - even Hove!

Not really, there’s always plenty to say. Photos, text, interests - all message openers.

Somewhere In The Ether…

I get around this by deliberately excluding full stops

Not really.

Read the profile, find something you relate to and/or find interesting and start there as a pointer to further conversation - politely, I would suggest.

Compliments work, as well.

I doubt anyone wants an essay, but most want more than a word or two.

Yes very frustrating

And knowing what they are going to want you to say it’s definitely a mine field

I'd just advise to avoid those profiles if you don't like them. I actually agree, ranty demanding profiles put me right off, but it's their profile to use as they like.

I avoid profiles with very little text in. It just reeks of laziness or lack of intelligence/personality or over confidence and a reliance on pictures.

Mine used to say plenty to give people something to go on when I welcomed interest.

It depends on the profile your looking at.

I mention different outfits, my life in Shields, a chance to ask my my fave comedian, or about my dog. Lots of opportunities to spark a conversation.

Yet most just say "can I fuck you"

We agree it is hard to strike up a conversation from thin air.

But read profile look at the photos and use some imagination. The Hi or you free just are a waste of everyone’s time. And if that’s your approach have the good grace not to get angry when it gets deleted.

Well, you've managed it here

Put as much effort into messages as you do into moaning and you're well on the way to solving your issue

Thank you.

Anything just not only Hi or Hello then get really angry and abusive if that Magic didn’t work.

To be honest is really difficult as we are all only judged by initial attraction which only is a small part of attraction, so we can’t wait to go to clubs and meet people in a more usual way.

It all depends on the quality of the one liner! Not interested in one liners of the ‘hi how r u?’ sort but it’s surprising how much you can convey in a well thought out short message. Essays not always required to open a conversation!

There's only so many times I can respond to "how r u?" or "what u up to?" before reaching the end of my (admittedly limited) patience.

I can understand some one liners really arn't going to get you anywhere, combined with the no replies no matter what you type it gets very frustrating.

Thank you all for your replies on here, I like a good debate.

We find it surprising so many single men actually read profiles.

Ours says no one word messages, but we regularly get "Hi" as an introductory message. (though the senders never understand our response)

If you don't have anything to say to somebody, don't bother writing to them.

Why would you pick one person over another if you don't haven't seen anything about them that makes you want to say something to them?

All you have to do is say what it is about them the made you choose to write. If you can't even do that much then don't bother. Anybody who writes to us with no more to say than "Hi how are you?" can expect their message to be deleted, and we say exactly that in our profile.
