Just generally curious about something here that maybe some people can answer.

Why do people set unrealistic expectation of the human body?

If you’re a women, society says you have to be curvy/thin, big boobs and a bubble butt. If you’re a guy you need to be tall, toned and have a giant penis?

I feel there are also so many double standards in society. For instance, women can be 600lbs but a guy has to be tall/toned, visa versa, if men or 600lbs they expect women to be basically models?

Why do we do this to eachother? Just my thought of the day really.

I certainly don't expect perfection or even think it exists beyond social media photo shopping.

Especially in men and women my age with the odd exception.

I think its a young people thing.

Media / capitalism tells girls they need to be a certain size but it’s interesting in LATAM and west Africa it’s quite different, the skinny thing is very much white culture

I'm pretty sure not everyone has those set of rules

Although I do see your point,

The one that gets me here is the shadow profile pic with the first sentence reading, don't dare msg me without a face pic, like WTF is that about lol

For me, on here I keep it simple one rule,

Would I chat to that person at a bar in real life, if so then I'll chat with them here, and like the real life bar, one never knows where it might lead.

I get the tall thing. I get told no thanks daily due to height.

And I do read profiles. Not all state a preference.

I couldn’t agree more. Social media can be poisonous for the mind and doesn’t always reflect reality. Many other reasons to get rid too

This though there is accounts out there that show all different body's and to embrace them and how people fake body shapes with poses, filters etc. Guess it's more follow people that interest you and make you feel good instead of making you feel rubbish or comparing yourself with.

Standards are personal and no two people share the same. If you both look after yourself you're likely to prefer similar people, it's not unreasonable to set those standards. If there's no attraction it isn't happening.

Its all down to the unbalance of men to women but then you don't have to be gods gift for most people. That said people should be able to set their own standards and if those people don't want to meet them fine it works both ways.

The 'Ideal Woman' myth was created by capitalism and perpetuated by media to create a neurosis reliant beauty / self image industry.

The 'Ripped and Hung' ideal mostly only plays on the minds of men who are unreasonably self critical, and is mostly perpetuated by themselves and people ( male and female ) who enjoy the lack of confidence these obsessions ( especially penis size ) instill in them.

Thankfully most people in society values others for who they are and not what manipulators tell them they should look like.

So, because I'm fat, I should only expect to meet other fat people?

Is that what you're suggesting?

The Laws of Attraction have got news for you

It doesn't work like that

If I stuck with men as fat as I am it would never work; it would be like two weebles trying to have sex.

Doesn't mean I'm only looking for someone who could make a living modelling underwear for Calvin Klein though. I'm attracted to guys with many different body types.

Manchester (she/her)

The powers that be set ideas of what people should look like. As others have said, modern capitalist ideas play out in the ideas you reflect.

Excess weight used to be seen as a sign of wealth. Ditto pale skin - you weren't working in fields. In ancient Greece the aesthetic was for dainty penis.

But then you seem to fall into the idea that certain appearances have "market value" with this double standards thing. No. The culture has set standards of beauty for ultimately economic reasons, and we can heartily tell culture to fuck off.
