Christmas alone

I've just seen that salvation army TV ad and for the first time ever actually listened to it. And it just occurred to me there are some kind and thoughtful and generous spirited people on here. So.. Have a thought and do ONE thing for someone who is alone this Christmas season. It will make a difference to their lives.

I was by myself last year due to circumstances. And to be honest there were a load of people on the forum who kept my mind occupied for which I'm very very grateful for x

I buy my elderly lonely neighbours a small pressie for a couple of quid and play santa

I by choice am alone this Xmas, I wanted one about me rather than concentrating on kids

I'll be on my own. It's just another day - and I'll make it up after I'm vaccinated.

If you want suggestions on how to help isolation this year, look for charities for the elderly in your area. Many are trying to find ways to put on safe Christmas events, which their communities desperately look forward to.

I can’t stand the doom and gloom mongers who automatically assume it must be awful to spend Christmas alone.

It’s lovely being able to do what I want, when I want without having to consider anyone else.

I've had a few on my own. Worst ones for me are when working, and many residents not getting visits from family or anything.

Like a few here I'll be on my own. Do I like it, no but don't let it get me down either. It's actually not 'just another day' we're bombarded with the whole family get together thing constantly and I think that's why it gets to people making them think everyone is having a ball... Except them.

Use the time to reflect, to self care and spoil yourself a bit. Make the effort to do a nice dinner and if you can, go a walk after or drive to the beach and plan the coming year. Things can't, and won't remain as they are, look ahead and plan some get together, set goals.

Then go home n get rat arsed while pigging out on chocolate and wine

And that's good that it works well for you. It's not however doom and gloom for some. It's emotionally challenging and it's even worse this year as some have been isolated for 9 months already. Just suggesting we are mindful of some who struggle at what is a time for giving... Apparently....

I get that. My parents will probably have to spend Christmas on their own this year and they’re not happy about it. My mum likes having family around and my dad thinks it could be his last Christmas but it’s just not worth the risk of me, or my siblings and their families visiting due to Covid.

Hopefully once there’s a vaccine, we’ll be able visit without worrying so in the meantime, it’s better to try and have a positive outlook rather than be miserable because times aren’t normal and we have to make the best of things

I was always away for it so became less important.

I see my mum and that's about it.

Absolutely this. I've spent seventeen of the last twenty Christmases by myself, and it makes me significantly happier than having to participate in it ever did.

This will be my first Christmas alone and I’m dreading it. Usually I’m very happy and crave being alone. Thing is , I have school age children who will be at the co-parent and it’s killing me thinking I won’t see them on Christmas morning

It's not the same, but I did part of my extended family Christmas on a different day when I was a kid. One of my relatives is a doctor. We saw it as bonus Christmas

As an adult - definitely not the same - I do Christmas with my parents when they happen to be around or I can go to them. (They cancelled this year's trip in March, and it'll be post jab)
