Just wanted some feedback to be honest. As a black guy whenever I'm thinking about going anywhere in europe I always need to find out how racist a country or city is.

I've heard some stories about Scotland, is it really that bad and what to expect, what cities to avoid etc??

I lived in Glasgow for over 5 years right next to Celtic park and then drumchapel.

Soon as rangers or hearts were playing at parkhead it was dangerous. Helicopter in the sky, horse mounted police who lashed out.trust me the police up there don't fuck about.

Even though I was a foreigner I didn't have any real issues.

Got mugged at knife point twice but that was the norm.

Lots of trouble in drumchapel with rival drug gangs etc stabbings and hearing the odd gun shot.

But honestly Scottish people I love and enjoy their company.

They speak from the heart and I do love a Scottish woman being angry.

As with any city you stay away from some places and mingle in others.

The women I found I could have a good chat too and they happy if your buying the drinks.

In all great people lovely country.

Wow. Been to scotland many a times. Lived and worked in glasgow. Edinburgh and even on isle of bude. By far one of the best places ever. Not racist at all. Lovely people grounded a great laugh and genuine. Plus they dont mince their words so the honesty is a good thing. You'll be fine. Their bad people and racists everywhere.

Every city has its rough areas, and every country has some racist idiots, but you won't have any bother on a trip here. The vast majority are friendly and welcoming and you'd have to take an awful lot of wrong turns from central Edinburgh to find yourself in a dodgy place... maybe a few less in Glasgow, but even that city is far safer than it used to be, despite what some of the horror stories might say.

Seriously I’m sure you’ll be fine. Central belt has immigrant populations of Italian and Asian in large-ish numbers, so it’s not just Rab C Nesbit sat in his vest with a bottle of Buckie.

I’m sure you’re smart enough to know where things might be a problem.

Rangers v Celtic is sectarian which is an entirely different issue.

That said, it is mostly a sea of white faces outside of the city centres. But being English is more likely to be a problem than anything else.

I get why you’re asking OP but I’ve spent time in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen. Individual idiots are to be found everywhere, ask which parts of the towns you wouldn’t ‘fit’ into and enjoy beautiful Scotland and the sexy men...

Spent NYE 1999- 2000 in Edinburgh and got very close to having a fight with a Scottish guy over his anti English rant at me. Admittedly out of all the people I met over the few days I was there, his was the only one who had the bad attitude (and he and me were d*unk).

As much as that experience spoilt some of my visit, in the whole the majority of Scots are no more racist than any other country you’ll visit.

The sectarian thing mentioned above is a whole different issue, that you’ll find in Ireland as well.

I am English living and working in Scotland. Yes there is banter about me being English but I’ve never found any comments to be bordering on racist.

I think you run a dangerous game when you ask if a whole city or even country has racist tendencies.

Every village, town and city has racists, bigots, sexists, homophobes etc but that doesn’t mean the whole area is like that

Yes there's a chance you'll get stabbed or a sore face but most likely for being an arse rather than the colour of your face. Glasgow is one of the friendliest cities. Keep yourself to yourself and be friendly like you would in any other city and don't worry, if we don't like you we'll tell you
