Pelé Appreciation Thread

Arguably the best footballer ever to grace the game.

He burst onto the world scene at the tender age of 16, excelling both for club team Santos and the Brazilian national side

Pelé scored 1,282 goals in 1,363 games and won three FIFA World Cups with Brazil, the most wins of the World Cup by any player.

What's your memories of the greatest footballer of all time?

Pele was definitely class and definitely the best of his era and I wouldn’t dare say anybody was better but there have been some fantastic players down the years

I agree.

And what an immediate impact at such a young age.

Truly the best ever

Most are from that Brazil 70 side and he never really tested himself abroad

One of the best ever certainly.

But I'd have Diego above him.

I concur wholeheartedly Cindi, I have never watched a football match in my life but you are always right.

How many other Pele threads do you think we needs? Another 10?

Yes, another great achievement.

How many other world cup stars have done this?

A truly humble honest man

Possibly, I feel we should honour Pele in a manner befitting his career as the GOAT

It took none other than Craig Revel Horwood on Strictly tonight to reveal unto me what GOAT actually stands for

Maradonnna was more of a playmaker than a striker

"

Positions do not come into the equation, if they did then Buffon would be higher than Maradona in terms of ability.

So that argument is flawed I'm afraid

This is about what he achieved and accomplished as a player.

Pele - FTW

They do if you are using goals as a yardstick

By that argument Shaun goater is a better player than Franz beckenbauer.

Sorry this thread is about Pelé, not about others.

He didn't win the world cup 3 times, the team won it 3 times. Amazing players around him in that team.

Maradona single handedly took an average Argentinian side to world cup victory and a Napoli side that had never won honours to 2 serie a titles, uefa cup etc.

I admit I havent seen enough footage of Pele but in my lifetime, maradona just edges it.

Ronaldo wasn't mentioned now was he? Maradona was.

Or should I have listed every international players goals in my reply as well to give a more comprehensive comparison?

Ok, Ronaldo is better than pele because he scored more international goals, (btw. I think Maradona was the greatest )
