Some policemen have been sacked for having a secret Whatsapp group and sharing material that the bosses disapproved of. Should they be sacked or allowed to have a private life

Do the police have to sign the official secrets act when enlisted, the same as I did when I joined the army , if so then by law nothing can be discussed on social media etc

Six police workers have been suspended following claims "offensive" material was posted to each other in a WhatsApp group.

The two officers and four staff from Essex Police are said to belonged to a private group on the encrypted service.

An internal disciplinary investigation was launched to look into talks among the six colleagues which allegedly breached conduct rules.

Essex Police declined to discuss the nature of the messages exchanged in the WhatsApp group but experts have indicated for all six to be suspended they must have been 'offensive and unpleasant'.

Nothing more to this story than the *full* report rather than a forum thread with half the facts and designed to make it look like something that it isn't.

Numerous media outlets reporting the story if you Google "WhatsApp Police Suspended Essex" - most of them reporting the *facts* that a hearing earlier this week found two officers guilty of sharing "discriminatory and derogatory" material and therefore were dismissed from the force on a charge of "gross misconduct"

If he is a policeman then he is expected to uphold the highest of standards in public duty.

Same reason you cannot be a member of groups that racially aggravate or political groups while serving.

To be honest he is a bit stupid to be involved in something that puts his career at risk and maybe not in the public's interest to have someone like him upholding the law

Actually there isn't - from the full reported facts, rather than half the story, it's plain to see there's nothing more to it than employees having broken a disciplinary code and having lost their jobs after being given a fair hearing at which they were found guilty.

I dislike inappropriate creep and control of private lives away from work. That said, it's wise to only share with colleagues what is permitted. Hope it doesn't affect their careers inappropriately.

Well of they broke the rules sharing confidential stuff then yes, should be sacked. If it was just a group of work colleagues sharing random chit chat and the usually stuff that does the rounds then no. Everyone needs a private life.

I'm sure a lot of people would disapprove, (even Im shocked) at some of the stuff I get sent on Whats app

But use back door exploits are a thing off the past when

Everyone so willing to hand over ever bit off information on them anyway to some random they don’t even know

The new method off attack is to create a quriky little app like facechangd and have millions download in the process give some full access to ur life

Always check permission a app wants before had

Ie there no reason a pic app should have access to ur location service if they want that red flag should be rased to why a pic app wants that data

There no reason for a game to want permission to admin level change on ur phone

Well I only phone and text mostly. Use a few apps but when I was at school there were no computers or mobile phones. I remember queing up at the local red telephone box. Very few telephones in houses...

For instance ur friend sends you a pic off what they look like at say 70 or say ur in ur 60 the app can make you look 20

And you think ooo that’s cool I going to try that

So you do

The app then mines all ur data while it’s installed ie pics texts phone numbers whare you stay bank account stuff and what not

In that apps tc that you had to accept that no one read 200 odd pages off bs

Will have it that they were legally allowed to mine all ur data and then sell that data to who ever they like and the person or people they sell it to can legally do what ever they like with it

Millions off people have all ready falling victim to it

There was a big uproar in 2018 about this
