My nan’s spare room.

I love them, I’d say Carry on Abroad and Carry on Camping are my favourites.

What do you think Carry on Fabbing would be like.

Oooh matron.

In reality I’m more Bernard Bresslaw.

Bought the full box set during Lockdown1, they are shocking; seemingly funny in parts but I'm determined to plough through ALL of them.

The memories they bring back are priceless and wonderful though.

Yes carry on abroad is the best one but rarely gets any praise.

I think I've stayed at the hells bells hotel.

For me the golden period was 64-74 with a great run of funny films...

Cleo

Cowboy

Screaming

Don't lose your head

Camel

Doctor

Up the kyber

Camping

Again doctor

Jungle

Loving

Henry

Convenience

Matron

Abroad

Girls

Dick

....

But carry on abroad is definitely the best.

I think carry on camping is the closest... Sid and his mate Bernard trick the girls to go to a nudist camp and shenanigans and situations ensue

There and to the left a bit

They re-made Carry On Abroad as the Ate You Being Served film pretty much.

I don't have a favourite as such although Doctor/Nurse/Matron are probably up there and particularly like Camel just for the presence of the legendary Phil Silvers effectively reprising the equally legendary Bilko

I'm also fond of England which was made much later (76 I think) and doesn't have as many of the regulars in, so often gets overlooked but isn't bad

If it wasn't for LWT and Hammer films then there would have been another Carry on film: Carry on the buses.

Imagine that.

Sid and Babs as driver and clippie

Joan Sims as canteen cook

Bernard Bresslaw as mechanic

Kenneth Williams as Depot manager

Kenneth Connor as nervous trainee driver

Frankie Howard as the know it all passenger

Charles Hawtry as a Vicar who keeps forgettiing to get off at his church

Jim Dale as a teacher who can never pass his driving test

Bob Monkhouse as inspector

Can you add to that list.

Sadly this can't be done with real actors and actresses as most of them are no longer with us. However someone could animate it and use voice artists instead. Big Finish do a lot of sci-fi spin offs like DR Who and Sapphire & Steel, so it's not that ridiculous an idea. Their antics might be.

The early colour ones were good, I just never liked Cowboy, as I do not like westerns.

I've never seen Columbus nor Emmanuelle.

At Your Convenience and Loving were quite underrated.

Abroad, Doctor and Up the Kybher are my favourites, with Cabby as the best black and white Carry on.

The less said about Emmannuelle, England and Colombus the better. Thankfully, Carry on London with Shane Ritchie never got made.

He was known as a rough diamond hence Sir Sidney Rough Diamond in Carry on up the Khyber. Also Vic Flange in Carry On Abroad.

But he was simply Sid, Britain’s unofficial king.

He was actually South African (born there when it was a British dominion), and a professional hairdresser. But somehow he managed to blag his way into acting and the movies.

Carry on Star Wars would have been good. Babs as Leia, Jim Dale as Luke, Sid and Bernard as Solo and Chewie, Hawtrey as C3PO, Williams as Vader, Kenneth Connor as Yoda....its too good not to do it. Surely some impressionists and animators could knock something up.

"He [Sidney James] also did a bit of boxing."

He claimed to. His Wikipedia entry says, "Upon moving to the UK later in life, he claimed various previous occupations, including diamond cutter, dance tutor and boxer; in reality, he had trained and worked as a hairdresser."

All of which makes you admire his chutzpah...
