BMW for sale...NO BOOMERS!

Just read an article in a mainstream newspaper showing BMW’s new advertisement. It labels some of it’s customers as boomers.

Another case of “Go woke-go broke” or do you think it’s ok for them to disrespect their customers?

Go woke - go broke? Is that a thing now? Or are they your words OP?

I guess if you're selling a car you can choose who to sell it to. If I were a boomer I doubt I'd be offended. I'd probably laugh. People do seem to choose to be offended a lot nowadays tho eh?

Not my words, just reading the article & comments.

It seems a lot of their older “baby boomer” customers feel offended by their advertising campaign to get them to change to Electric vehicles are taking the hint and changing to Tesla.

Yeah there's a lot of "offence" being taken on all sides lately.

Far more important things to worry about imo.

Agreed. Do you think it’s a wise move by BMW?

I honestly don't care. I got involved in your thread cause I was intrigued by the go woke catchphrase.

Giving it some thought though; I imagine the advertising execs who work for BMW are aiming for a completely new demographic and hoping it causes a massive fuss in the media thus getting loads of free coverage.

As long as they fit a toddler seat as standard I don't see a problem with that

Don’t think they’ve given a fuck about there customers for a while. Build quality just ain’t what it should be.

Don’t know if the boomer jibe will have the effect the Gillette one did.

That’s what I was thinking when I saw it. Gillette suffered as a result I believe.

I the past, I actually worked for BMW. Their marketing department is a very slick, well-oiled machine and they really do understand who they are trying to sell to, who buys their products, and why.

From my experience working for the brand, the sad aspect was that despite the engineering and driving dynamics engineered into some models (no, sorry but your 316 or 114 don't even come close to being "The Ultimate Driving Machine") the single most important part of each car sold was... the badge.

What BMW have done in the past fifteen years is make lower volume production much more viable, hence the now vast range of models on offer. Their marketing department's job won't be to sell BMW as such, but to target the mix of models sold. BMW in the UK at least could hit their sales target with 1 and 3 series models alone.

Thing is, the motor industry is in a state of flux, and with any major technological change, the old order doesn't always remain top of the heap. That challenge won't be helped by some of their styling choices late...

Massive drop in sales figures I believe, because of the toxic masculinity advertising campaign.

Thanks for that insight. It’s all about the prestigious brand. Image is everything.

When I saw the ad, I thought they were playing on the youngsters attitude of making fun of the older people who seem to fear change. By doing this, maybe “getting down with the kids” for want of a better quote.

Maybe men preferred Gillette to focus on making good razors rather than telling them how to love their lives?
