Can you do a festive video chat?

My elderly relatives only have the really simple text only phones that can't do anything more technical than text or call.

My decs went up yesterday which is unheard of for me as I don't even celebrate.

But daughter is home from uni tomorrow so I thought I would make the effort.

Dread it every year, all the focus on togetherness and big family days etc all contribute to making it difficult, I'm always glad when it's over. That makes me sound proper bah humbug but it's simply the truth.... I'm a happy little sparrow the rest of the year lol honest.

It's just a ball ache to me

I am not a fan of enforced celebration to start with

Add in the fact I have to make two 70 mile round trips on Christmas Day

Then add in there are no kids in my family - youngest is 16 - and with adults it's just not the same

Then add in it's a loooong arsed day - I usually leave home at 8am and get home past midnight

It just becomes a faff

I'm pretty sure people are only allowed to travel 30 miles due to lockdown. You'll have to stay home this year.

Not feeling it terribly this year TBH. Too knackered to care - haven't bought a single gift, logistics of getting my Dad here/home that don't involve 4hrs of driving on Xmas Day (he gets disorientated away from his house). Add in health uncertainty that's reared its head just recently for Me and all sorts and we're just meh. Sorry to be party poopers

Being honest too many health concerns over who could/ could not come / travel over etc so now no one is goin anywhere.. everyones staying home ! I guess it cuts down on the food shopping bill though;) .. Add to that what is a very obvious gloom and doom feeling you get everywhere you go these days I will be saying no to the whole thing this year and pretend its not happening .. We need to be honest there is not really anything to celebrtate is there? why the hurry then ? could we not wait a month until we all have something to shout about instead? .. and don't get me started on people who put up their Christmas tree and Decs in November..madness

Fucking hate Christmas, although two weeks off and a little cottage with just the two of us is being greatly looked forward to.

There won't be any poxy decorations either.

No, not really. This will be the first time in nearly 20 years where I am not at home with the family for Christmas.

Feeling melancholic, perhaps I should get a cheap plastic tree and a bottle of wine next week to make it less sad.
