You need a slasher!!

Or a strimmer

If you want it gone for good then the only way is to black it out with plastic - water permeable from the garden centre though. It will kill everything underneath if left for a growing cycle.

But it's not very attractive and will leave you kinda gardenless unless you put pots on top till it's done.

Dig a bloody big hole and let the rain do the rest.

Water features are so attractive.

You could do that, then cover with a layer of gravel. If you want some greenery, scrape back the gravel, slice open the cover, plant, and replace gravel.

That's why you need an old fashioned slasher - looks like the kind of implement mobs of angry locals in olden days used to chase Dr Frankenstein and his monster out of town!

You can grow a surprising number of veggies in pots too. The plastic you need can be sheets of plain black plastic (anything that doesn't let light through) but you can use the water permeable stuff that they put under gravel too. That stuff is harder wearing and less likely to rip.

Strim the nettles down to the ground and clear using

good gloves (at least you get a head start on the compost heap!). Next you can either turn the ground over and cover or spray with a biodegradable killer. You will need to turn the ground at some point anyway, though. When I was a kid me n me bro used to chop down nettles with a stock, it's not hard work (though it will make your arm ache a bit) but sticks are cheaper than a strummer.....

strimming is pointless as it will simply grow back again, you need to dig them out by the roots ..

A world of my own

Pay someone to clear it for you?

Nettles are a pain, as said, strim as close to the ground as possible, you could try caustic soda but its a bit dodgy, otherwise put the black liner on and cover with gravel or bark. Add a few flags and pots, table, chairs and BBQ, hey presto, a low maintenance garden!

You can hire a rotivator to break the ground for you.

Tbh, if you go for the plastic you don't actually have to chop anything down, just cover it thoroughly for long enough.

Kinross

Cut it down using a scythe, then a few days later, attack new growth with glyphosphate (the generic name of roundup/ol etc).

It will take a few repeats to clear, along with a lot of attention the next few years until it settles down.

Beware digging especially if you have bind as this can help spread it.

Whilst the ground is wet, thoroughly dig it out by the roots and at the same time, clear the ground of stones, rubble and dig plenty of muck in.

If yer quick, sow some biannuals and perennials for next season.

"A good dose (or maybe 2) of Roundup killer.

As others have said, strimmer with a blade (brush cutter) and spray when it`s starting to shoot again with any killer that contains glysophate (Roundup for one) It may need more than one dose but also stinging nettles hate having their roots disturbed so even if you don`t dig them right out just try levering the roots with a fork. Don`t spray if there`s any wind and if rain is expected. If you can`t get hold of a sprayer, you can use a watering can. If you have a good golf club or agricultural supplies place nearby get your Roundup from there, the stuff at the garden centres etc. whilst genuine stuff is quite dilute to enable use by "amateurs".

And don`t keep chickens either as the droppings encourage nettles!

Yes! If the stem is hollow you can pour the killer down inside the stem so don`t cut off too low! Same tecnique for hog , cow parsley and japanese knot but don`t compost any of the cut off material, especially the knot. Let it dry and burn it.

You have to use Roundup..but it will take 3-4 weeks before you see them dieing..then cut all the dead stuff away and wait a month as some might come up. Repeat and the job should be done.

Get one of your friends to phone up the police and say there is a stash of drugs buried somewhere in your garden. They will come and look for it and dig over your garden in the process.

You need to dig down about 6-7 inches get rid of it all and replace with either a good top soil (not a free one that some companies give away) or a soil conditioner get some dried kiln sand and put a thin layer down then lay new turf and water it every night, late on evening till settled once settled mow it and rake it with a strong metal rake and lightly sprinkle dry kiln sand over it again do that evey 6 months and you will have grass like a bowling green! Just picked up a great suggestion for clearing it without lifting a finger!

Host a BDSM party and invite the Doms and Dommes to bring their subs along for some hard labour naked nettle clearing to be followed by some nettle whipping with the longest specimens!

Sorted!

You may have to do some nibbles but no gardening!

Don't get rid of them. Put them into a bin or other receptacle with some comfrey and add water. When the results really stink you have a very fine liquid manure . Dilute one to ten and hive plants a watering with it every so often.
