Discuss boundaries and limits with them up front and make it clear to them that kind of play is not for you and be prepared to walk away or accept they may if you do - compromising your principles in the name of sex is never worth it.

Same. I like some rough play. I have absolute faith and trust in S. I allowed some BDSM in the gangbang I had but the whole scenario had been discussed at length first over weeks and S was there watching everything (he did join in later). I wouldn't do anything like that if I was meeting alone possibly ever (I don't know, I'd have to get to know someone) or randomly in a club.

I've been meeting someone for a little over two years now. I completely trust him and he knows where my mental and physical limits are, I often ask him to push a little further at times. But I know I can talk to him about absolutely any of it and we're very open about it. I wouldn't do rough stuff with anyone.

TBH if you do not know them well, you are best advised not going down that path.

It's not just "do I like it" it's what does this look like? The rougher the sex - the more open to (mis)interpretation and the stricter and more formalised the rules need to be. It is truly in your best interests. RACK and SSC discussions may help frame you dialogue with your prospective partner. If you are not willing to broach the subject before the bedroom then you shouldn't be doing it at all!

Even if you both like hardcore sex, it should only be done with someone you've built up trust with. It can be dangerous and unsafe if not.
