Ken Clarke @ Silverstone...why?

Ok forgive my ignorance on the matter if it was an important occasion but...

Why was he on the podium and most importantly, why was he in front of everyone else like some sort of Roman Emperor in his pomp or as I would say, out of place.

?

I thought of things such as a charity fundraising gig or something along those lines but I have failed in my googling prowess to dig up anything other than it being a little trip for himself.

Important heads of states in the past never stayed in front of the drivers so what makes this guy a special case?

They need a bigwig to present the trophy

I remember princess Di doing it one year and standing right in front of the winner during the national anthem, couldn't see the driver

Would have been funnier to see him in the middle of the track - during the opening lap!

Dressed as a frog! (the green kind - not the onions and beret kind!)

Used to love that game - 'Frogger'

It did irk me that he was there standing like he was in the moment he created.

"oh yes I see it now, land of the EU be my heaven!"

He was in front of an Aussie though so I cant be that upset.
