Looks vs Personality

Please read carefully

What's the first compliment you'd prefer to get one for your looks or one for your personality.

For me it would be my looks as the first compliment however I would want someone as they got to know me better value personality over my looks

In real meet, neither.

I will observe a person reactions/ facial expression when he first sees me and I will make my own conclusion.

For first meet, I take it as a compliment to my physical appearance for him to agree to meet.

For regulars/repeat meets, I take that as a compliment to my personality.

Personality.

To notice how I look all they need to do is open their eyes.

To notice my personality they need to listen too.

Listening skills are far more important to me than looking "skills"

On fab I can't imagine how anyone would know my personality really except one or two fairly perceptive people.

I actively enjoy being genuinely complimented on my looks but then I'm shallow and vain .

I also enjoy being genuinely being complimented on my personality by people who actually know me.

Compliments are always nice, and it's taken me til this age to be able to accept them graciously.

I don't take compliments on here too seriously, though. "Nice tits" etc. But if I meet someone and they appear to mean it, it's nice to be complimented on "Me" - my humour, personality, etc x

I'm not in the market for verbal compliments. The greatest compliment anybody can give me is wanting to be around me. They don't need to verbalise it. Somebody's actions mean more to me than saying something they think is good about me. Luke

Between Chichester and Havant

It is all about personality for me, but there does have to be a physical attraction in the first place. I'm guessing we're talking online, ie fab?

Online, you can't judge personality until you start messaging, so there has to be something that attracts you in the first place to that profile.

In the 'real' world it would most definitely be personality as it's far easier to see.

I agree with that to an extent but the many threads there have been recently saying how unkind words and insults have had a lifelong effect on people's self esteem and opinion of themselves makes me think that actually telling people the genuinely good things you see about them is a very valuable thing.

My mum could be quite critical of me but she also praised me in equal measure. I can remember her saying within my hearing how much she enjoyed having us kids home in the holidays and she often pointed out to her friends how nice looking she thought I was (I bet the friends were rolling their eyes ). I think those small things have gone a long way to underpinning my opinion of myself.

99% of my compliments are regarding my looks, such as my fabulous outfits, gorgeous legs and high heels (their words), which then leads to them meeting me, to which I then get compliments about my personality, so my looks gets me my meeting with admirers, if I'm out at a club or venue, admirers approach me because of what I look like and then get to know me.

As others have said context matters, however if someone compliments me on my looks I would do a double take. ,I don’t consider myself ugly but I also know I am not a classically handsome man.

Someone cannot comment on my personality without knowing me, only their perception of me.

I really don’t mind. However I value compliments about things I really value.

For instance I like compliments like ‘what you said really helped me sort my problem out.’

However I’m not so keen on ‘I was really impressed how you shut that cunt up.’

Compliments about my looks are rare and there’s very little I can do about most of them really, except those related to health and beauty routines.

Genuine compliments are always lovely, but my favourite compliments are for my clothes, shoes, hair, makeup - anything where I’ve made a conscious choice to look a certain way and have control over whatever is being complimented. That’s because they’re not just saying “x” thing looks nice, they’re also complimenting my taste or my skills, so I love those compliments more than most others.

Physical compliments - that depends on who and what I suppose. I don’t really pay attention to the Fab messages saying things like “the most beautiful woman on here” because that’s so obviously bullshit - and he’s probably just sent it to 20 other women as well. I’m also not that keen on any variation on “nice tits” unless it comes from someone I like. It’s nicer to get a genuine compliment on a less obvious feature - the first time someone on here told me I have beautiful eyes, I melted, because that’s not something I’ve heard often.

Compliments on my personality only come from people who know me well and usually who I’m close to. Those are nice because they’re real, and they’re from people whose opinions I care about. I wouldn’t expect compliments of that sort on here where no-one really knows me.
