Die Hard 2 was certainly up there with the first one...should have stopped there though as 3 and 4 were well below par

This principle also applies to Fast n Furious.

It just got daft and repetitive after No3

To be honest most sequels that stretch beyond a second or third one tend to end up milking the same cow - Jaws, Police Academy, Terminator, Rambo to name a few.

Struggling to think of any apart from Aliens and possibly Rocky that managed it (and even Rocky arguably went downhill after the third one)
