Swearing doorstep man.

Just had a guy from an energy provider firm knock my door. Trying to get me to have a smart meter.

Now I did answer the door in a hoody and my hairs a bit wild from drying naturally and I have no make up on but he was swearing in his delivery.

He had my first name as well which was probably off the records they hold for the area but I found it a bit unnerving having my first name used and also him swearing when he was telling me about the product.

Found it quite unprofessional to be honest. I told him I was in the middle of a zoom conference and he was like okay I’ll call back later, I’m gonna make sure I don’t answer the door.

He was using the F word like. I know I use it myself and I dunno if it was a tactic to create a bond or whatever but I’m a bit offended that he thought it was acceptable to swear in front of me.

I dunno. I feel weird about it.

I can’t believe people are going door to door trying to sell stuff at the moment.

I wouldn’t like that either. It seems unprofessional, but also, some people are offended by swearing, and how does he know whether you are one of them or not.

He did have a mask on but he was like it’s fucking so much easier to have this and was saying quarterly bills give you a shit tarif, and he was fucking this and fucking that.

Maybe just tell him to mind his language because you’ve got kids in the house. I’d be annoyed if someone knocked on my door and was cocky enough to eff away at me trying to get a sale

It’s a bit presumptive and familiar to think you could speak like that on someone’s doorstep especially when trying to obtain business

You should have told him to fuck off

I would say that he's probably not genuine. Did he show an identity card?

I’m sitting here now thinking I should’ve said to him can you stop ‘effin and jeffin, we’re not in your local working mans club, you’re at my home.

Wirral.

Totally out of order!

I swear like a trooper, but never in public & certainly not if I was in a work meeting. It's a respect thing. Shouldn't matter WHAT you were wearing! How dare he?!

That sounds like a scam to me - I doubt anyone us going door to door at the moment.

Urgh I hate people!

Yeah he had a lanyard round his neck and could see his photo on it. Was Scottish power. He sounded like he was from the valleys. I live on the coast and we do not swear at strangers down here.

Even if he was genuine, I wouldn't use that company now on principle

I phoned Virgin Media years ago for internet and TV, and after being passed from pillar to post for 15 minutes a woman stuffily told me there was no cable in my road and no plans for there to be one for at least 10 years, and then put the phone down.

Since that moment, Virgin can go fuck themselves

It’s made me feel a bit scruffy to be honest but I knew I weren’t going anywhere today. I’m down my mothers for tea after my daughter finishes school but that’s all I need to do today.

Didn’t like the familiarity of using swear words and my first name.

I feel like such a Karen now but it made me feel a bit awkward and like I shouldn’t have had my slippers on in my own house

I reckon the first day, first lesson at cold caller school is "don't swear when talking to potential customers".

He might have massively misread the situation I suppose.

We've got a smart meter, we can't see any advantage to them really.

Complain to the company, or else he'll do the same to others

I'd find it a bit threatening if a stranger on my doorstep was swearing. Time and place. That's not it.

He would have got a face full of door from me as soon as the swearing started and could think his self lucky he did not get a punch to go with it

Nah, I ain’t a grass and couldn’t deal with that sort of stuff on my conscious if he got sacked or anything.

If he knocks again I’ll tell him that I don’t appreciate the effin and jeffin and it’s not a good idea to sweat at potential customers.

I’d just not answer the door. We get them here and you tell them to do one (politely) and they try and try till you just tell them your tea is burning. Meanwhile my dog is having a nervous breakdown and barking to tell the whole estate that a stranger is at the door.

And they always call at the door at tea time, and I’m always a bit hangry by them. Just no.

A good tip is to tell them you’re renting and the Landlord sorts all that out. Works for double glazing anyway.

Report it to Scottish power and police, I would be more bothered by the lack of a mask at the momen while we are so in the shit from Covid, not that the government are getting the press to subdue the deaths and hospital admissions rates or anything but this is as bad as last time and you are being door stepped by a twerp without a mask spreading it around the whole area

I dont understand why you would have a concience for such unprofessional behaviour .

Do you honestly think that you telling him you dont appreciate his bad language will change his behaviour ?

Id report him without question.

I have to admit that when I first saw the title of this thread I thought it was some kind of novelty item you'd bought and left outside your house - like those nodding dogs you see on car parcel shelves
