Autumn Nations Cup

International rugby starts tonight with Ireland v Wales. (Channel 4 7pm)

Should be an interesting game with both teams, following the conclusion of the Six Nations, very much on the back foot at the moment.

Other games this weekend:

Italy v Scotland, England v Georgia (both on Saturday) and France v Fiji (Sunday)

The saturday and sunday matches are on Amazon... a paywall... which is a shame as the Autumn Internationals would normally all be on free to air.

Not the most inspiring lineup of games. France v Fiji might be fun for 60 mins or so.

We (Wales) are fucked at the moment. I don’t get why we don’t look at 2023 and start blooding some of the U20 squad. It’s what France have been doing and look how it’s gone for them.

We need backups for Biggar and others and getting them to 20 - 30 caps by the World Cup should be a priority

Autumn internationals are a normal part of the rugby schedule, and are seen as a useful warm-up to the Six Nations.

Wales were originally due to play Fiji, Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa before covid .

That's standard fare for the average Union game! How people can watch it week in week out is beyond me.

Educate yourselves and watch the Super League play-offs... faster, fitter, better handling, less kicking.

Completely agree.

That Ireland Wales game last night was just total dishwater.

I then watched Catalans Leeds 2nd half and felt completely robbed that I’d missed the first half.

Union in its current format is terrible entertainment.

There's only one thing more boring than last night's game and that's the whole union/league argument.

Last night's game was turgid. But each code has its merits.

Yup. Union gives guys who enjoy rugby but aren't good enough to play League an outlet.

It's quite hilarious when Union commentators rave about a player making 20 tackles and making 50 metres ball in hand when in League 50+ tackles isn't a rarity and props average between 6m-8m per carry. If a Union prob manages 5 yards he has a heart attack and has to wait for his mates to come and jump on him so he can have a rest.

Ok so I'm being a touch facetious but as a product, Union can be extremely turgid.l and certainly doesn't merit 90% of the rugby coverage in the national media.

Walsall

It's an interesting take for the autumn covid impacted internations. At least there is something on the games, at least if taken seriously.

It could be a good way to proceed in the future for the autumn internations, imagine a line up involving some of the southern hemisphere sides. It could be a great thing.

Although I'm not keen on the amazon prime viewing, it's just another package you need to watch sport nowadays. The way its all going you need a supcription for everything, on top of the extortionate amount we pay to one of the regular satellite companies and don't get me started on the license fee.

I get that this is their new away kit, which as etiquette dictates, they would wear if playing at home and the visiting team kit is too close to the home teams home kit... but the Georgians are in their home kit of white - so it’s not exactly too close to Wales home kit of bright red ...

Agree 100% but they are probably also aware that our previous change kit, a rather nice green number, was only used by the women's squad much to the annoyance of the manufacturer.

I can't see Wales getting anything from it today not on current form anyway, they look a lost side. I wasn't impressed with Ireland last week, England could and should have won by a lot more.

I think from the selections England will try to pound Wales into the turf, a lot of big guys and 6 forward subs. Ford back give two kicking options. Given the weather today it will be a game for the purists as it will be an ugly spectacle, maybe just maybe this will play into the hands of Wales and even it out a bit.

I'm still not impressed about the amazon prime debacle. Yet another subscription needed

Amazon Prime or if you have Sky you can watch it on the Welsh channel S4C if you don’t mind the commentary in Welsh

Not sure, it was on the Amazon commentary at the last scrum penalty.

Not a bad half time score for us at all

We are making some things too easy for England

Quality try though from Johnny Williams and genius play from Biggar to set him up

England played the first half like a team who had already bought the silver polish for the trophy before a ball was even kicked.

Their lesson today: NEVER UNDERESTIMATE YOUR OPPONENT.
