Can you remember where you were

I always remember my father saying he could remember where he was when Tommy Cooper died.

The only massive life changing event for me was 9/11. I was on a 23 hour flight back from Australia when 9/11 happened and didn't know a thing about it until the day after when we landed in Heathrow and I bought a newspaper in an empty airport. They were even waiting for us to land to fully close the airport.

Can you remember where you were?

I was skiving last two classes of school, went home to find the old dear sat with her friend. I managed to convince them both I had free periods. If I was a bit quicker on my feet, would of said we all been sent home.

Waiting with my son who was in a pushchair for my mum to come out of a charity shop.

She said it had said on the radio in the shop, that a plane had gone into a building in New York.

I rang my husband at work and he confirmed it.

We went back to mine and much to my son’s disgust, watched the news constantly,

Yep but I have a crazy memory anyway and can remember basically every day of my life since being a child.

On the Tuesday of that day I was in my grans I was 18 and watching Sabrina the teenage witch on Nickelodeon (no judgement) a message came across the bottom of the screen saying to switch to the news. Turned local news on and called my gran, as we were watching it the second plane hit. Was the first time I smoked a fag in front of my grandparents!

Yep, I was only 11.

Got in from school and my dad was watching it on the news.

He told me I was watching history in the making.

I repeated that sentence to my kids when the first lockdown happened

Waiting for a taxi to take me to the airport for a holiday in Turkey! At one point it was touch and go whether our flight would be grounded or not but we were fortunate that it wasn’t. I can honestly say that with all the extra security, I have never felt safer getting on a plane than I did that day

Nope. All the tv's and stuff didn't show news and Dubai airport was empty with no news on either. Nothing. My mate came to see me when I got back to the house with 3 videos on news he had taped to show me. Even our bus back home was odd. We went allowed to travel with our luggage.

I was on a US Airways flight when Sully ditched in The Hudson (that was US Airways too)

The cabin crew were acting really weird throughout the flight

It was only when we landed did we find out why

Just started self employed working as a sales agent

I'd spent all morning phoning prospective customers and had a bank appointment in the afternoon to set up a business account

Got in my car to drive to the bank and Simon Mayo was the presenter on 5live talking about the extraordinary events that the World Trade centre had been hit and collapsed. It was puzzling to say the least. I was thinking that it couldn't be those two huge towers

Got to the bank and the manager told me about it and when I got home I switched the telly on to reveal all to me

I have to say, I was numb knowing that the world was now a very different place

I was breast feeding my little girl.. She was 4 months old and I turned the TV on in my Mums bedroom and saw Princess Diana had died.. Was so upset...

9/11, I was working in a taxi office listening to the morning news on the tv while working.

Princess Diana's death I was woken by my Mum to tell me she'd died and also the lady next door. It was the same day I was taking my parents to meet a coach for their holiday.

I was on a my day off, I remember talking to a guy who was helping me change my electricity supllier. We both sat open mouthed at the TV screen watching the events.

It was a different Gatwick that I went back to on my first day back, there was a solemn feeling to the place.

At work, and we were just giving my friend his birthday presents.

We all stopped to watch it unravel on the news for a bit, then the bosses decided to let everyone go home or to the pub if they wanted.

I went to the pub with my mate to try celebrating his birthday the best we could... which wasn't very well.

My grandparents watched the show Tommy Copper died in on the telly! Little did they know

9/11 - Was driving back to work from lunch walked into the office to discover everyone huddle round the radio. I asked what was happening...

Diana - was helping my dad at his cub scout group on camp, so a field somewhere. My friends were all in Bagleys nightclub and they went to kensington palace to lay flowers that am and laid them right by the metal fence

2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, well I was totally unaware of this until new years eve, when my friends and I went to the local pub to celebrate and the landlord was at the door asking for donations for the Tsunami as an entrance fee. I shouts out: What? Whats a Tsunami...

9/11 I was working a summer job at uni, doing night shift security on a big building site. Randomly woke up and couldn't go back to sleep so switched on the radio to hear a very shaky radio presenter say they had reports of a plane hitting the twin towers. Then a few minutes later he was trying to figure out if a second one had really hit.

Didn't sleep that day.

Princess Di, was visiting a friends families farm and we were getting ready to head out when it came on the news. His aunt told us we'd always remember where we were when we heard. We laughed and said no danger. And obviously I've always remembered it like it was yesterday

Luke: Temping in an office near Finchley Road in NW London. I heard somebody saying "One plane could be an accident. Two planes has got to be terrorism, right?". As word got around the office, less and less got done and we all ended up glued to the TV reports.

Hannah: Working in a hotel near the WTC in New York that ended up getting closed down for a while because of the crisis.

I was driving to Frankfurt for work when my gf called to say a plane had crashed into the WTC & while on the call the second plane hit. When I got to the plant about 30 mins later they’d stopped work & were all in the huge canteen watching it on big tv’s. Probably 300 dumbfounded people in almost total silence.
