Leaving school on a Friday, then starting my 1st job on Monday as an apprentice radio and television engineer for the Co-op.

Also remember Rod Stewart having some good tunes on the wireless set, The Sex Pistols and also having only 3 TV stations to choose from, all of which closed down at night and began to broadcast again in the morning ..

The Test Card - oh yes, I also remember that

Philadelphia music - George McCray and such like, Detroit Spinners and all manner of grand tunes.

Listening to Radio luxenbourg on a scratchy old transistor radio whilst holidaying with my parents in a caravan in Scotland - it always rained !

My Grandparents

Aye those were the days lad ! When ahh were a lad

Radio Caroline and Luxembourg...the music mag - Disco 45, which gave you all the words to the chart tunes. Slade, T.Rex, Bowie, 10cc, Mowtown, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Ike and Tina Turner. Teen mania over the likes of The Osmonds, David Cassidy, The Bay City Rollers and David Essex.

Doc Marten boots came out, hot pants, ponchos, Ben Sherman shirts, Crombie coats, dessert wellies...all the gitls drank either lime or blackcurrant in their lager....and vodka and lime...and Red Witches. You still paid a deposit on pop and beer bottles (always a good source of income). School dinners coast 60 pence for the whole week. My first pack of cigarettes......which were ten No 6 and cost only 9 pence. In 1977...it was possible to go out with just a pound...it would buy you 2 halves of larger and 10 ciggies.
