" According to Etymology Online, it started as slang in the US, first attested in 1927. "Boobies" first attested in the 17th century, related to "bubby". Possibly from Latin for reasons I'm not getting into here (if you look you'll see why), or it might be a natural childlike use of language (they give equivalents from French and German) | |||
